It may not be WWF but nearly
400 spectators were at the

tre for wrestling between
such wrestlers as Firefox and
Mervin Pugwash. (seen in ac-

years also featured comic

It was two hours of
entertainment that
close to 400 people
won't soon forget.
Sunday night, a six bout
wrestling match was held at
the South Huron Recreation
Centre and like the stuff you
sec on television, this offered
both comedy and athletic
power.
But behind the scenes is a story about- a great than who wits
one of this country's greatest athletes - theittte Whipper Billy
Watson. .
A champioh`vili s-tler for parts of three decades, Watson is
probably just as well known for his years of endless effbrt to
help those with disabilities.
That quality seems to have been carried on to his son Phil
who brought the wrestling program to Exeter on Sunday.
Prior to the start of the show, he said the reason he started
up the Teen Pro Wrestlers program was to give teenagers a
second chance and to give them a future.
"I started with the idea a couple of years ago and just sat on
it," said Watson."
But the death of his 17 year-old daughter by a teenaged
drunk driver, madc him decide to make a full commitment to
helping young wrestlers.
Using donated space, Watson began to train young wres-
tlers not only physically through the knowledge passed on by
his famous .father, but he made sure to think of their future as
well.
"They go on the Tony Robbins motivation program and we
teach them our marketing program so thcy have a skill after
wrestling."
Although Watson is a large man, some of his wrestlers on
Sunday's card were not.
While the crowd watched the young teen pro wrestlers they
also were provided with a comic Midget Mania featuring
midget wrestlers such as the Lone Wolf and Mighty Moses.
It's been a succesful caravan of wrestlers which was in Han-
over on Saturday and on Monday packed up their squared
ringand heading to Wheatley. -
The troupe has gone to northern Ontario and is looking to
apply theirtrade in Quebec.
Watson has taken a few troubled teens and has tried to teach
them a career. It may not be as glamorous as those in the
World Wrestling Federation but it's a living.
"Most of them want to go into our league, Team Pro Wres-
tling."
Watson hinted he is not a very big fan of the WWF, which,
through its success, has seen a surge in wrestling.
"To me its 40 year-olds running around in clown suits," said
Watson of the wrestling on television. "I'm not drawing the
croWd but its not boring."
Corner to comer, across the ring in the air, and slams to the
canvas were just part of the show on Sunday. Forsome it's
entertainment through a comedy form and others v$ew.11 as

Wrestlers in Watson's program accumulate points from their
matches which are tabulated. The winner receives the Whip-
per Watson Memorial Cup which was displayed prior to the
start of Sunday's event.
This v ekend 1, ; to be a busy one as the South Perth La-
dies Fastball League will hold its final tournament in Credi-
ton on Saturday and Exeter's ball diamonds will be the site of
the Western Ontario Baseball Association rookie and five -
pitch tournaments. Gordy's Beach Club in Grand Bend is
hosting a two-day co-ed slo-pitch tournament with proceeds
going to the village's Parks and Recreation Department. To-
night a benefit hockey game featuring several NHL players
will take place at the Stephen Township Arena beginning at
