Lessons from one small *Itten
As usual, where tad a'ball game to. get to, we
were in a rush, two of the four kids were oom-
ing Menne. The youngest, who is 3, was hug-
ging onto a kitten.
"OK, Lauren, put the -kitty -down. It's time to
go," i said.
l'Bye, bye Moonshine. -1%13e back soon," La-
uten4old the kitten.
We climbed into the car -and as I backed up, I
feltthis sickening little bump with the tires. As I
backed:up further, I realized what it was. Moon-
shine had:ctawled:underthe-oarand didn't make
it out in time. -We went over totem and could

'This may sound a little far-fetched to have
stemmed from the demise.of:one kitten, but I
couldn't.heip dwelling:onxhepreciousness of
t life_as it hangs by athread:fine idea:of being
here one minute and gone the next got me think-
ing about dt,.ng and saying certain things 1 had
been meaning to do.
So many times we pass up the chanbe to do
simple things that could brighten up a person's
life, like visiting, writing a letter, or lending an
unexpected helping hand.
And how many times have we wanted to ex-
press our feelings to someone but didn't know
how to go about it or never got around to it? It's
never too late to say thanks for something, or to
tell someone what they mean to you.
Many people find it hard to talk face to face
about such things but once someone starts the
ball rolling, it gets a little easier. Or perhaps you
are like=me and would rather write than talk. I
find I can say just about anything with a pen.
Communicating feelings is very difficult but so
Important, and both the.giver:and the receiver
benefit.
Ifihere is.someone you've been -trimming to
say something -special to, go ahead, make their
:day, or yours toobecause life is precious, life is
fragile,.and you may not_getanother chance.

to share it withyou-anddedicate it in memory of
Moonshine. •

Researchers are working on a method of producing
an artificial tan that actually protects the skin from
the sun. It involves taking a drug called melano-
cyte -stimulating hormone. It sounds good but it still
is a few summers away from becoming a reality.
Chamomile, an herb that is usually brewed and taken for its relaxing ef-
fects, •is related to the common ragweed plant. People for whom rag-
weed causes allergies, should avoid chamomile since it could cause the
same reaction
Over 2:5 million Canadians suffer from athletes foot each year. This
fungal infection of the feet starts between the toes, a nice moist and
warm place. To avoid this malady, keep your feet dry, use footwear that
is made from natural materials to allow the feet to breathe, and champ
your shoes and socks daily.
