GRAND BEND - While the Huron Country Playhouse production of
Wait Until Dark.bas an outstandifigfinalscene, youhave to real1pay at -
'motion in he first three scenes or you will get lost intim overload of;infor-
Wait Until Dark which runs until July 17, has a very slow beginning and
it is not until the end when things pick up.
For: those who like mysteries, this is a decent one and no doubt mystery
buffs will be accustomed talkie pieces of the puzzle that have to be figured
out.
But there are a lot of puzzles which are not necessary.
. First brought to the stage in 1966, Wait Until Dark originally starred Lee
Remick as thevistually unpaired Susy Hendrix and Robert Duvall as the
evil Harry Roat, Jr.
Writer Frederick Knou trys to stuff the audiences' heads with too much
in the first ttureseaseseand this play would be a flop if not for his ability
to come-ttp elithilledillIaliMding final scene.
But don't Btvd ILaeti that much credit because this production is saved
by the actors who try their best to keep the audience attentive in the fust
act.
Linda MacKay !t turns to the Playhouse after performing in Terrtitge
Indians, Run For Your Wife, and Boeing,Boeing.
In Wait -Until Dark she plays Susy Hendrix, ablind girl who shows one
can cope quite well without sight.
Suzy outwits and is even able to defend herself against three evil men
who come searching for a doll that has drugs hidden inside.
The other mail) characters. Eric Coates as Harry Roat, Jr., Cowin Manu
as Sgt. Canino *Id Stephen.Ruseell as Mike Tatman also do a good job.
Russe11hee a tough assignmenlas-he isalmost in -a bad -guy -good guy_ role
in an auempt at times to show some compassion for a woman he is trying
to con.
Suzy Hendrix and Harry Roat, Jr. bung the plot to a bubble in the final
scene as they try to kill each other - Roat for greed and Hendrix out of self
defence.
The title of this play is appropriate because in the last scene, Roat has
the same advantage as the blind Hendrix as the two fight in the dark.
This is not a 'who done it mystery' and for those who don't. care for it,
don't blame the cast or the Playhouse, pin the blame on the writer.

6ODERICl1 - Time is running out for Huron County Council as far
ws a decision on the actual size and voting structure of council is con-
cerned. -
There will he a municipal election in the fall of 1994 and if the cur-
rent structure of county council is not changed, there could be several
more people crowded into the council chambers in Goderich.
On Thursday, council once again put off a a decision on just how
many councillors will make up council and of those, how many votes
each would -get.
The subject has been batted around for several months now, and it
will onceagain go back to the exccutiVe committee forthat group to try
and come up with another solution.
Recently, the executive committee' recommended the following
which falls under -Section 28 of the Municipal Act:
Where the town, village or township has more than 1,000 and not.
more than 2,000' electors, the reeve a -s -a member of the countyCOuniel
shall have -an additional vote. Where it has -more than 2,000 ancenoi
more than 3,000 electors, the reeve has two additional votes and where.
it has more than 3,000 electors, three additional votes, so four in total.
Despite being a member of..the`executive COmmitt e, Tom Cunning-
ham of Hallett Township was against the multiple vote -structure.
"1 would hope the day would never come when a person's importance •
-around this table would diminish," said Cunningham. "I think we
should hove one person, one vote."
Bill Vanstone, of Colborne Township; also a irtember of the commit-
tee, said the only way they could get one vote per person was through
Section 28. -
Hay Township's Lionel -Wilder agreed with the one person one vote
and asked, "I: have six properties in Hay, do 1 vote six times' or once!'
In the past several months;' the 26municipalities have been given a
choice between.many options on which way the structure should beset
up.
Of those 26,<eight<ehose; basically a one person; one vote system,
"bat .was the oth the most support; however since there were
ti.tegegiteil options, it **Only one third of. the 26 municipalities.

not popular with the municipalities?," asked Zurich's Bob Fisher.

. R SPOT NEED NOT COST YOU DOLLARS!"
Dollar Spot is a disease that can occur in lawns during warm
weather. The fungus .enters the grass plants when they are wet.
Large tan -coloured wounds. appear on the grass blades. These
infected grass• blades result in round, damaged patches the size
of a silver dollar, in the lawn. If the disease becomes more seri-
ous, the"patches can expand aril damage the entire lawn.
The best method for controlling Dollar Spot, is for the homeowner
to alter hisitier lawn care practices -Avoid allowing watereo sit oe
the grass plants. Prune trees to.encourage more air movement.
Avoid applying water to the lawn at night.and high fertility should
be maintained. if possible use grasses that are. resistant to this
disease. Those methods provide adequate control of Dollar Spot
without costing you dollars!

t.t)CAN - A two -zone study has
been undertaken to investigate the
flexibility in the floodplain 'man-
agement policies within the village
of Lucan. Lucan currently has a
one -zoite floodplain policy; helm,
development of land within
floodplain area adjacent to .
watercourse is prohibited or IN-
strieted.
However, "the two -zone plan has
more flexibility," explains Mac
Scott because there is a definition
between the central floodway-
(which carries the majority of flood
flows) and, at its edges, the flood
fringe - where development may be
permitted if conditions are suitable
and structures are adequately flood -
proofed. So, what's- actually being
done is the designation of the fringe
areas as land which can be built
upon.
This study is being done by B.M.
Ross from Mount Forest with a to-
tal estimated cost of $8,000:00. Of
this, 50 percent will be granted
from the province of Ontario, 'five
percent from the Ausable-Bayfield
Conservation Authority general
levy, and the remaining 45 percent
will be paid by the Village of Lu-
-can.
The Censdllants will identify ire-
atls'witer+e a two -zone or floodway/
fioot Wane concept would be feasi-
ble. 1'he Information will then be
taken to council where they will
have the opportunity to decide
which areas will be the most impor-
'alant for development beeause it
•nay not be possible to build on all
*bf the fringe areas. The reason for
-this is that the consultant may find,
:'Through detailed analysis, that if
building occurs on all fringe areas
eef the flood plain, therewill be taeo
••tgreat an impact on the exisdng
flood elevations.
If it is not possible to allow all
fringe areas to be totally developed,
the council must decide which
fringe areas are most important for
development as far as the future of
the Village of Lucan is concerned.
-After that, they will host an open
%use, hopefully in September,
',where information about the Two-
-Zone Floodplain Management Poli-
cies will be available for. public
viewing.

How many hours of steep is typical and normal for
people over the age of 60? It seams that 4.5 - 6.5
hours is normal for this age group. '
The major cause of steep problems in the elderly is
.sleep apnea. An apnea is .any pause in breathing longer than ten sec-
onds but usually lasting around one minute.
For persons having trouble sleeping. it is best to establish a bedtime
routine. Go to bed at the same time etch night and get up at the same
time each morning. Time spent relaxing befgre going to bed also encour-
ages steep. e
Exercise during the clay not only helps people to steep, but also ap
pears to promote the deeper sleep of stages three and four. However,
don't exercise less than two hours before bedtime because It can stimu
late the body too much matting It more difficult to fall asieep.
Of course, if all else tails you can follow the iiidvice of Mark Twain: 'if
you can't sleep, try lying on the end of the bed... then you might drop
off.•
