Model aeronautics championships
on the fly at Huron Park Airport
HURON PARK - If you spot
some aircraft that appear to be
stran8ely undersized, your eyes
aren't deceiving you. The model
aeronautics Association of Canada
is holding its annual championships
at the Huron Park airport all this
week.
On Canada Day the association
opened its national championships
with a feature demonstration of
several types of aircraft that would
be competing in the events that will
run until July 11, this Sunday.
Huron Park was chosen for the
event because Of its central location
in Canada, drawing competitors in-
terested in representing Canada on
an international team from across
the nation.
"We call
it a hobby/sport now,"
Spectators at the radio -control demonstration in Huron Park Thursday .Included people from
across the county, attending the national championships for building andilying moderaircraft.
explains Ricard Fahey of Burling-
ton, adding that most competitors
get just as much fun, if not more,
out of building their models. Each
aircraft takes hours and hours of
work to complete, depending on the
detail involved and the type of chal-
lenge it presents. A huge four -
engine Lancaster model sat on the
apron, no dosbt representing one of
the most difficult models to build
or fly. -
Anyone interested in catching -up
-with some of the remaining events :
can see old-timer rubber -powered
and.gaspowered competition today
at Huron Park. _Control line models
will .be racing, doing stunts, and in
combat tomorrow through Sunday.
Radio -controlled scale' models will
be competing tomorrow and Fri-
day; and there •will be aadlo-
controlled aerobatics :on Friday,
Saturday .and Sunday, and pylon
racing on the weekend.
The association _ also sponsored.a

powered model competition in Lon-
don last weekend. . Free flightrmod-
