The "model" mentioned isn't your average model, in fact it's the only one of it's kind in Huron County and perhaps all of Onta- rio. Ron MacGregor's Robert Bell 1922 Imperial Super Drive tractor has been photo- graphed by Ralph Sanders of Des Moines Iowa for the 1994 DuPont Classic Farm Tractor calendar. A panel of judges selected the tractor for the calendar, which will feature's picture along with the photo and history of the tractor. Later in July the tractor will be used , along with the 11 other calendar tractors and owners, in a video produced by Vemard'Films Ltd. When .completed the video will feature not only the tractor, but -MacGregor starting and driving it as well. Built -originally in Seaforth, by Robert Bell Engines and Thresher Co. the tractor was purchased brand new by MacGregor's father, William MacGregor, for $3.200. Which was quite an expense at.the time. MacGregor's tractor is not new .to fame, as it has travelled to many International Plowing. Matchesover the past few years, and has shown for the past seven years at the Ontario Agricultural Museum in Halton. This year the tractor will be on display there July 17 and 18 for the Great Canadian Antique Tractors Field Days exhibition. The event will include a parade iof over 100 antique tractors Uizt MacGregor will drive in. The Ontario Agricultural Museum's holds copies of sales records belonging to the Robert Bell Co., and through them MacGregor was able to pin point the exact purchase date of the tractor as August 4 1922. MacGre- gor found that other tractors of the same type were sold and shipped to Manitoba and Saskatchewan. However, most of the ones' sent out west were a smaller variety, with a four pin clutch, unlike MacGregor's larger model with a six pin clutch. To keep his tractor in good shape MacGregor runs it periodically through the year, and oils it often. Though he doesn't use the tractor for regular farm work like his father did, the MacGregor's still grow wheat, barley, and soybeans, which are some of the crops originally planted by William MacGregor. The calendar is scheduled to appear in September or October, but there is no local distributor known yet. If your interested in obtaining one, order forms are availa- ble by calling the Agricultural Museum in Halton, but for more information on the 1994 Classic Farm Tractors catalogue write to: Classic Tractors,P.O.Box 1755, Wilmington De 19899. Or call 1 -800 -4 -FARMS -1 (for .credit card orders). Mso available are the classic poster and videotape. 'Not sure what .month he'll be, MacGregor says, "They said I was at the top of thepile, but who knows."
