EXETER - Trailing 2-0 after half
an inning. the Exeter Co-op Juniors

Western Ontario Junior Baseball
League action on Wednesday. •
Mark Keller started things off for
Exeter in the bottom of the first

stolen bases. A Mark Glavin rbi
ground out brought in the first Ex-
eter run.
A double by Glavin in the fourth,
his stolen base and a Mike Agnew
ground out rbi added another run.
In the fifth, Derek Beckett and
Dan Spears both walked and ' then
Scott Parsons ripped a,, triple to
score' both Beckett and Spears. An
Agnew single in the sixth and a rbi
double by Leigh Mathieson made it
5-2.
Agnew went the distance on the
mound for the winners as he al-
lowed just five hits and struck out
nine in eight innings.
He also leads the team in hitting
with a .617 average after 47 trips to
the plate which include 23 singles,

Fury win fourth, top Croatia
EXETER - As far as offence is
concerned, Sunday afternoon's
Western Ontario Soccer League
game between host Exeter Fury
and Croatia, had most of the action
in the final two minutes.
The Fury scored with less than
30 seconds left in the game to
break a 1-1 tie and win their fourth
second division game in seven
starts.
On a rainy Canner's Field, Henri
DeBruyn scored in the second half
to put the Fury ahead after a very
defensive game and then a long
shot by Croatia evened things up,
"We should have had more goals,
we have trouble with the long ball.
We don't play it into the feet of the
forwards and they have to do too
much running," said Exeter coach
Martin DeBruyn.
Racing towards the goal, Henri
DeBruyn was hauled down outside
of the 18 -foot• box which set up a
free kick. He made no mistake and
despite a wall put up by Croatia,
drilled it cleanly into the comer.
"It was lucky for them it was out-
side the 18 -foot box or it would
have likely been a penalty shot,"
said DeBruyn.
The win snaps a two -game losing
streak by the Fury, one a tough cup
game and the other a 3-1 league
loss to Chatham. Exeter will try to
Sports shorts
make it two in a row on July 4
when they travel to play the Assyri-
ans.
"In the last two games we didn't
have the breaks. We lost 3-1 but
we could have won 3-1 we just
didn't use the opportunities we.
had," said DeBruyn.
