The baking club had two winners in the culi- nary division at the Hensel/ Fair. Mildred Gingerich won a second for bran muffins and third for her old fashioned sugar cookies. Edith Bell won a first for sugar cookies; second place for her molasses cookies and a third place for her bran muffins. Residents got together last Mon- day for our monthly supper club. Everyone prepared their own mini- pi77ns on -English muffins. Pastor Alles was the minister who led our weekly church service last Tuesday. Special thanks to Joyce Pepper for providing the mu- sical accompaniment for the ser- vice. The folk from the Christian Re- formed Church in Exeter took a Exeter .UCW conduct auction EXETER - The afternoon unit of ,the Exeter. U.C.W. met on June 10. President Marian Dougall read two poems. Olive Thomson :reported on :the meeting at Camp Ihmini. July 24 will be:the summer event at Siloam Church and September 14 the event at Zurich. On July 4 the U.C.W. caters to a 60th anniversary. Doris Denham thanked everyone who had helped at the Friendship Tea. Mavis Atthill reported proceeds from anniversary of $1,042 and smorgasbord.$2.836. In August the annual quilt show will take place at the museum. The September meeting will commence with a potluck dinner. The speakers will be representatives from ' Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Mary Baechler led the program and Marjorie Delbridge read the scripture followed by prayer. The main event was a large auction with Marian Dearing .doing a superb job _as auctioneer. Blue Water residents entertained ZURICH - Tuesday evening members of Zion Lutheran Church, Dashwood visited Blue Water Rest Home to entertain and celebrate the June birthdays. Those celebrating were Marcella Dietrich, Ruby Hog- garth, Norma Parkins, Madeline Harbum and Elizabeth Johnson. Peggy Restemayer was chairper- son and Joanne Maguire was pia- nisifor the junior and senior choirs. The Junior Choir, ages five to 13 dressed as sheep, ewes and rams, provided a sheep musical under the leadership of Jill Stojkovic, singing "We Like Sheep", "No Matter How Bead We Are", "Born to be Our Shepherd" and "Celebrate". The Senior Choir, Group 1, under the leadership of Karen Gaul, sang "Lean on Me", "The Old Rugged Cross", "We will Glorify" and "Worship Melody". Group 2 nerved cake and ice cream to the residents along with the help of Home Auxil- iary members. Donna Metoer end Verde Baechler. Rev. Mark Gaskin, Carmel/ Coven Presbyterian Church, Hen- sall/Exeter conducted Thuradav af- ternoon Chapel Service. Fr. Peter Hayes, St. Boldface Church, Zurich celebrated Mass - his last service at the Home. After the service the congregation and residents joined together in the au- ditorium to wish Fr. Hayes best wishes in his new assignment and studies. Josef Risi, the Home Ad- ministrator thanked Fr. Hayes for providing his services to the Home on a weekly basis the past five years. Veronica Bedard, with the assistance of Ann McBride and Agnes Courell served cake and re- freshments to Fr. Hayes' well wish - We wish Oriole Harvey a speedy recovery . at South Huron Hospital, Exeter. Oriole" lives at the B.W.R.H. Apartments. The St. Boniface Buddies hold their picnic with the residents on June 22 at 11:00 a.m. ApproximatcQ ly 20 residents will attend the 5er- niors Town Picnic on June 23. The residents and their families look forward to the Summer Dinner ,at the Home on Sunday, June 27, =1993 at 3:00 p.m. number of our residents for a car ride last Thursday, when they trav- elled to Hayfield. The rainy weather on Sunday did: not stop the dads from celebrating Father's Day. Many dads enjoyed visits from their children, grand- children and friends. A reminder for everyone that Queensway's *nnual Strawberry Social is Wednesday. This is an an- nual fund-raiser for Alzheimer's Research. Tickets are $3.00 each and strawberries will be served from 6-8 p.m. There will also be entertainment provided, so bring your lawnchairs. Upcoming events Thursday, June 24, 7 p.m., birth- day party with Ray Cann; Monday, June 28, 8 a.m., Breakfast Club; Monday, June 28, 10:30 a.m., Resi- dent Council. The Varna United Church Pork Barbecue, held last Wednesday was a real treat for those eating these tasty pork chops prepared by Joe Laurie. NOTICE TO PUBLIC UTILITIES WATER CONSUMERS To conserve water the Exeter Public Utilities will limit the use of hoses for the watering of lawns and gardens. This requirement includes new lawns and sod. Effective immediately and until further notice, the following schedule for the use of hoses will be permitted. Please note revised hours: Residential Customers (households) Sunday to Saturday Inclusive 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Commercial Customers (businesses) Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Some customers are watering lawns and gardens at the rear of their, house during the restricted hours. Customers disregarding the restric-; tion periods will be given one reminder of the restriction and if there is. a reoccurrence the customer risks a fine, or having their pressure re- duced, that would eliminate watering with a hose for the balance of the summer. The commission does not wish to curtail any customers watering, but in fairness to all customers that adhere to tho restriction it must en- force this policy. The co-operation of all customers will be appreciated.
