Graduate - Jeff McCurdy grad-
uated on June 16 from Fan-
shawe College in the Architec-
tural Technician Course. Jeff
received the Architectural
Achievement Award present-
ed by AATO London Chapter
'at a special assemby in April.
He will be returning to Fan-
shawe in September in the Ar-
chitectural Technology

position as materials technol-
ogist and inspector for Golder
Associates, Consulting Engi-
neers in Windsor. Rob is the
son of Bob and Mabel Hern.

EXETER - Wednesday. Jute 30
the Take Heart Huron program of
the Huron County Health Unit will
be launching its workplace pro-
gram by holding a heart health lair
in the Old Town Hall Park (rain lo-
cation - Town Hall) between 11
a.m. and 2 p.m.
The public is invited to come
and participate in the interactive
booths - get your blood pressure
tested; try your luck at the "Wheel
of Health"; compare the nutritional
value of two lunches with a regis-
tered dietitian; monitor your car-
bon monoxide level or participate
in our heart healthy walk through
town.
"A Fair of the Heart" will mark
the launch of Take Heart Huron's
workplace program. Public Health
Nurses from the Huron County
Health Unit will be available to as-
sist workplaces through heart
health education, programming
and policy development.

GRANTON - The Mud Run
sponsored by the Granton Lion's
Club and held on Saturday and
Sunday at the Emerson Wallis
farm north of Granton was well at-
tended and quite successful.
Entries came from Port Elgin,
Sarnia, Windsor, London and the
surrounding area and the Bryans-
ton Optimists were in charge of
the major food concession.
Emerson Wallis r,as honoured
on Sunday on the occasion of his
birthday and Father's Day at a fam-
ily barbecue held at his home.
The annual pork and strawberry
supper sponsored by the United
church and held at the park on
Wednesday, June 16 was well at-
tended and very enjoyable.
At the St. Thomas' Anglican
Church on Sunday, June 20, the
anniversary service was held com-
memorating 110 years as a congre-
gation and 65 years in the present
church. Rev. Stephen Emery cele-
brated the Holy Eucharist and his
message was about the Archaegos
or lifeline swimmer who like
Christ gave his life to save all peo-
ple. -
Special music was provided in a
vocal solo "I could never out love
the Lord" by Cindy Bilyea accom-
panied by the organist Marlene
French.
Peonies, carnations and other
summer bowers graced the church.

WHALEN CORNERS - The
Sunday service at Zion West was
conducted by Rev. Clare Geddes.
Peggy Geddes and five confirma-
tion students assisted. Each -student
spoke about :Weir =incidences and
growth in faith these -past five
months. A skit about -Adam and
Eve was portrayed. /
Becky Hem, Elaine Jaques. Josfi-
ua (JJ.) Hern, Nathan Hern and
Steven Hern were confirmed into
the United Church.
By transfer of membership, five
more people joined Zion West
church: Sandra Hern. Larry Hern,
Jason Hem, Christopher Hern and
Nancy Brock.
r Refreshments were enjoyed after
the service to welcome the new
members.

Granton Women's Institute enter-
tained the Clandeboye W.I. at the
St. Thomas' Anglican Church on
Tuesday evening June 15 com-
mencing with a smorgasbord sup-
per at 6:15 p.m. Muriel Lewis
opened the meeting and gave a
reading on Summertime.
Special guest Dorothy Dobbie
from Rirr Women's Institute read
numerous selections from her sec-
ond book of poems. Former mem-
ber Velma Hodgins of St. Marys
was also a guest and accompanied
the singing of a variety of old fa-
vourite songs.
The program topic was safety
when Muriel Lewis read about pre-
vention being the only cure for
childhood accidents and safety tips
for summertime meals. Olive P.
Hodgins read an article about caf-
feine in coffee being addictive and
gave a humorous reading "Every-
thing in it's place".
Letters were read from .govern-
ment leaders regarding -the closing
of Centralia College, as well as
summer program information at
Fanshawe Pioneer Village and an
invitation to the 70th anniversary
of the Ilderton W.I. in July.
There ,will be no regular meet-
ings in July and August. Some
more songs -brought the pleasant
evening to a close.
