The fo- cus of the evening was to review the past years events as it effected all as- pects of the organization. "It's been a year of changes, of shifting circumstances, as the gov- ernment imposes financial restraints and conflicting guidelines upon agencies such as ours," said Presi- dent, Roben Walker. Walker said there is a suggestion that a zero budget will be imposed for the next three years and salaries frozen. However, financial change isn't the only variable, the agency is also differing in their vision of sup- port. Walker asks, does the word "integration" mean a sheltered work- shop among peers, a one-on-one :classroom support, a paid job in the -+workforce, or volunteer work? Ac- cording to Walker the agency has a real challenge in the year ahead to accommodate these changes into Stephanie Morgenstern .and Marc Rue! as Hermia and Lysander in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Midsummer Night's .Dream Stratford conjures up a sensual fairy kingdom By Adrian IHarte T -A Editor STRATFORD - Trends in Shakespearean theatre go in waves. One season, a director will go vui of his or her way to recreate au- thentic Elizabethan representations of the bard's plays, just as an au- dience might have seen it at the turn of the seventeenth century (al- though we might note few use men in costume to play women these days). The next season, the same director may then decide to throw away the confines of the Elizabethan theatre and -set the play in a new era - uniting the sixteenth century lines with a new world. Under the di- rection of Joe Dowling, this is the kind of new life the Stratford Fes - u val has breathed into A Midsummer Nights Dream this season. This play can be put on stage with many different perspectives. Young lovers can romp in the woods, with their romances tinkered with by playful fairies. Or we can see our mortal world manipulated by invisible forces more real and powerful than we can ever know. The latter is the kind of view Stratford has brought Wq this favour- ite comedy this year. The whole world quakes at the unrest in the marriage of the king and queen of the fairies, Oberon and Titania (Festival veterans Colm Feore and Lucy Peacock). The rest of the fairies do not float about the stage on gossamer wings, but are wildly palmed spirits storming through a sensual forest setting to disco pop and rap rhythms. They take great delight in interfering and upset - ung the "real" world of the young lovers. There is a great deal of visual information included in this produc- tion. The words tell only a pan of the talc, with a whole level of hu- mour and delight present in the hand gestures employed by most of the cast. The audience will especially enjoy the performances of the Steph- anie Morgenstern and Sheila McCarthy as Hermia and Helena.. The only trouble is they do overshadow their male counterpans in the battles to reconcile their loves. A Midsummer Night's Dream is a rich and wondrous production at Stratford this year. Sparse and minimalist arc words that never come to mind to describe it. SPECIAL Turkey WINGS 49lb. Despite these problems the Agen- cy finished the year out on some positive notes. John Gray, Execu- tive Director, explains the Board of Directors, on recommendation from the Individual Program Plan Review Committee, adopted a new format in the way the agency will plan with individuals, called Person Centred Planning. This format places the person in the centre of the planning process concerning them. Also, the Agency was able to finish the year with a balanced budget. Another bright spot in the Agency was the1992 Flowers of Hope cam- paign which raised S17,021.51. Fred Simmons, Chairperson, ex- pects that with the addition of Sea - forth to the canvas area CLSH can expect to raise $20,000 during this years campaign. • The new Board of Dlitikets Vas presented and sworn in by pet president Henry Van Essen. The. new Board for 1993-94 will be Rev, Stephen Anes, Tom Consitt, Marg Kohn, Elizabeth Saunders, Herb Verbeek, Bert Branderhorst, Donna Greb, Linda Markham, Paul Turnbull, Fred Simmons, Niall Straw, Harry Kluge', Ed LaKsma- nis, and Roberta Walker. The new executive will be kited on at the June 23 meeting. The evening was rounded out by a performance entitled "TELL" which involved members of Community Living organizations from around the county. TELL was a theatrical presentation of the experiences and feelings of many of the Community Living residents. The audience was invited to participate by giving their solutions to some of the problems demonstrated. • Tfiatattitioaziposiont *MbioneiriLlopisifeerver porilkilotrlionlome SIZZ C MOTOMASTEI 331/0 OFF $iECTED REGULAR -PRICED `UI -STOCK ALL -SEASON PASSENGER RADIALS Save 33% on quality au -season radials' MOTOMASTER SKI10, SP100, LE, XT75, SL, AW, Metnc HR4, Turbo Lazer 4, Thrbo Lazer 4HR and P -metric CAT • TRAC AIT.
