MT CARMEL - Former students
and colleagues over the years at-
tended a retirement party Friday
evening for retiring kindergarten
teacher Helen Ryan at Mt. Carmel
Separate School.
Ryan was celebrating her retire-
ment from 36 years of teaching.
She started her career at East Wil-
liams School in Nairn, and also
taught in Exeter when Precious
Blood School first opened. Ryan
joined the Me Carmel staff in 1965
and had been a kindergarten teach-
er for the past 14 years.

held its second graduation
ceremony for the visiting
lupteers who have completed
an eight week training program.
The volunteers provide support
for the terminally ill and their
families during the illness, as
well as in bereavement. Back

Varna UCW watch slides

VARNA - Ethel Ball from Auburn was guest speak-
er at the Vama U.C.W. meeting held last Thursday
evening. She spoke and showed slides on her most in-
teresting trip to Israel. Ball went with a group to tour
many different cities and villages in Israel such as
Caserea, Tiberias, Telev, beautiful Jerusalem, Jericho
the oldest city in the world and many other wonderful
places. Water is very scarce there. Eight -five percent
of agriculture is exported where it used to be imported.
Elaine Stephenson and Ruth Johnston were in
charge of the program and lunch.
President Joyce Dowson conducted .the business.
'Ihe U.C.W._are saving Campbell Soup.labels. They
:go to the Deaf School in Peurto Rico. They have
'reached the two million mark with 1.7 coming from
Canada. 68,825 labels will .buy computer software,
995,000 will buy two camcorders, 33,050 labels will
get two microwave ovens.
Donations were given to Brucefield-Vama-Goshen-
Kippen Vacation Bible School and to Camp Menese-
amg. The back room in the manse is just about com-
pleted-Forthe September meeting the ladies will be
going :tolbe-Huron Country Playhouse to see Fiddler
on the Roof prior to dinner out and a brief meeting.
There will be more information closer to the date.
Varna Sunday School children were presented their
. awards on Sunday, June 13. Sunday School superin-
tendent Joe Laurie introduced -each class and teacher.
The nursery class taught ,by' leisa .- Stephenson and
Brenda Consitt were presentediheir awards fast with
Stacey Consitt receiving her second year seal and
Cameron Laurie receiving his third year seal. The jun-
ior class taught by Debra Rathwell and Joan Rejecting
were next with Leanne Stephenson receiving her fourth
year seal, Danny Rathwell receiving his sixth year seal,
Jason Beierling his seventh year seal, Graham Laurie
receiving his seventh year seal and his eighth year di-
ploma and Andrew Laurie his eighth year diploma. The
senior class taught by Joe Laurie were Valerie Laurie
receiving her eleventh year seal and Michael Stephen-
son his sixth year seal. Heather Beierling and Heather
Laurie both received their thirteenth year seals. Rev.
Phillips congratulated all the children and teachers for a
job well done.
Sunday, June 20 at 7:30 part. at Goshen Church Jean
Bennett will speak on her trip to Africa on behalf of the
Canadian Foodgrains Bank.
Stanley Township sponsored swimming lessons at
Vanastra will be held from July 12-23 and the cost will
be $38 per child. Bus pick-up is,.in Varna and Bruce -
field. Contact Sandra Robinson for more information or
to register your child at 263-5307.

late Penny Smith of London. Pen-
ny was the daughter of Harvey and
Donna Smith. Rev. Geddes and
Rev. Deborah Carter conducted
the service with Remembrances of
Penny given by friends Cindy
Shaddock and April Leonard.
After the service lunch was
served by the ladies in the church
and outside on the lawn and
friends and neighbours from
McGillivray Township and Credi-
ton are planting a beautiful Mag-
nolia tree on the lawn at Centralia
United Church in memory of Pen-
ny.
A special Father's Day service
will be held at the United Church
next Sunday.

Hockey held their draw for the
prize of food vouchers. Fust prize
went to Bill Gibson of Hensal) who
won a $250.00 voucher. Sandra
Consitt, Hensal) won second prize
which was a $150.00 voucher.
Third prizes went to Audrey Koeh-
ler. RR I Hensal I with a $100.00
voucher.

TAKE NOTICE that the Council of the Corporation of the County of Huron will hold a public meeting
on Tuesday, June 22, 1993 at 7:30 p.m. at the South Huron Recreation Centre in Exeter toypsid-
er a proposed Official Plan under Section 17 of the Planning Act.
The proposed Offie,ial Plan would affect all lands lying within the Town of Exeter (as shown below).
The Official Plan will include policies for Residential, Commercial. Industrial, Open Space and Institu-
tional land uses. among others. The Official Plan will also include land division and servicing policy
for the Town. The proposed Official Pian includes policies which applies to all lands within the Town
of Exeter. A draft copy is available for information purposes to all ratepayers within the Town and
may be picked up at the Town eof Exeter municipal office.
ANY PERSON may attend the public meetintra(td/or make written or verbal representation either in
support of or in opposition to the proposed Official Plan.
