Students of the Year at South Huron
Friday night, the students of the year will be announced at the South Hu-
ron District High School formal. One male and one female student will be
-'selected by student body vote from the nominees below.'
Anne Walper has been involved in many
different aspects of student life. She has
played an active role in the overall basket-
ball program at South Huron, and for her ef-
forts, recently received the ohn Peters Me-
morial Basketball Award. nne has been a
five year team member, three year volunteer
coach at the grade school basketball clinic,
and even managed to coach a champion
public school team this past spring.
Anne has been a consistent student council
representative and prefect. During the past
two years, Anne has also been a major par-
ticipant in the school's annual drama pro-
ductions. Her most recent endeavour has
been the responsibility of being in charge of
this year's June formal.
Academically, Anne has achieved honour
roll status throughout High School. She en-
joys working with children and has volun-
teered much of her time to her Co-op place-
ment at Usborne Central School. Anne hopes
to further her education to someday become
a public school teacher.
Anne is the daughter of Ron and Pam Walp-
er of Exeter.
Stacey Rader is an OAC student with a keen
interest in athletics. During all five years she
has played basketball and volleyball and the
last three years played soccer. She was cap-
tain of all three teams this year at the senior
level. She has won various sport awards
through the years and received Senior Fe-
male athlete of the year as well as the Pan-
ther award this year.
Stacey has been an Athletic council represen-
tative and this year is the Athletic Council
chairperson and an executive member of the
Student Council as well as a Prefect and
Spirit Club member.
Stacey has contributed much of her time to
help the younger students with their athletic
skills. For the fast three years she has been a
coach for the Elementary School Basketball
Camp as well as a Public School basketball
coach. She is a volunteer coach and official
for high school sports.
This year Stacey was awarded an. Excellence
in Public Education Award given to stu-
dents who have contributed towards the
school program
Stacey is the daughter of Dave and Nancy
Rader of Dashwood.
Kerry Manders has enjoyed her past five
years at S.H.D.H.S. actively involved in all
aspects of school life. She has maintained a
high honour roll average each year and in
1990 was the top student. She has played
basketball, volleyball and badminton all five
years and was co -captain of the basketball
team this year.
She has been a member of Athletic Council
for four years, this year as an executive
member. Kerry has participated in OSAID
and has served as a prefect for three years.
Many hours of her time have been commit-
ted to helping other students as a two year
Guidance Support Team Member and as an
assistant coach of the Midget Volleyball
team last year.

ership Award for the school and was recent-
ly honoured with an Excellence in Education
Award for her efforts.
The daughter of Glen and Betty Ann Lam-
port, Kerry plans to attend ether Western of
Queen's University in the fall to pursue her
passion for English and Women s Studies.
Kathleen Petch has been a student at South
Huron the past five years. Throughout, she
has kept busy in as many school activities as
possible. Extra-curricularly, she has been a
member of OSAID, a peer mentor, a peer tu-
tor, the secretary of the Youth involvement
group, a member of the yearbook and on the
guidance support team.
Academically, she has maintained good
marks, her favourite subjects being chemis-
try and biology. When not at school she has
volunteered at South Huron Hospital, been
a active member of and fundraiser of the
Brain Research Foundation of London. The
past summer and this upcoming summer
she has worked as a counsellor at Camp
Trillium, a camp designed for children suf-
fering from cancer and their families. She
was recently awarded the Terry Fox Hu-
manitarian Scholarship.
Kathleen plans to attend the University of
British Columbia in September where she
will study for her BSc in nursing.
Kathleen is the daughter of Wes and Marie
Petch of Grand Bend.
Fred Steciuk for five years has enjoyed par-
ticipating in many school activities and
sports groups., while maintaining a consis-
tent acadeibic standing, including an hon-
our roll average for allhis OA courses.
Fred has enjoyed all sports as a Panther
while taking special interest in hockey, curl-
ing and South Huron's newest game, rugby.
On a intramural level, Fred was a member
of the infamous team "Ramsey's Warriors".
This year Fred stayed involved in student
activities as vice-president of the school's
student council. He also served as a prefect
and a Spirit Club Member.
For education groups Fred was involved
with the White Ribbon Campaign, and Exet-
er's Waste Management Committee. These
are both two important issues to Fred.
Next year Fred plans to attend McMaster
University, and study business.
He is the son of Bill and Sharron Steciuk of
Exeter.
Carrie Ducharme, for the past five years,
has enjoyed being an active participant in
many aspects of student life. Carrie has been
a honour roll student and hopes to be an
Ontario Scholar. She has been on the cross
country team for five years.
Carrie is a member of O.S.A.I.D. and has
been a prefect for the past two years. She is
enjoying her experiences as a member of the
Ontario Liberal Party. Came has been ac-
tively involved on the Athletic Council for
four years, two years as an Athletic Council
Representative and last year as an Athletic
Council Executive Member. This year, as the
Liaison for the Athletic Council, she was re-
sponsible for the organization of fundraising
activities and the annual fashion show.
Carrie plans to continue her education in the
fall at Sir Wilfrid Laurier University.
Carrie is the daughter of Ken and JAnn
Ducharme of Zurich.
Kim Wulterkens has attended S.H.D.H.S.
for five years. in that stretch of time, Kim
has been active in many aspects of the
school. Presently, Kim is secretary of the
Student Council. She has helped co-chair a
.group to stop violence •vithin the school.
Kim is also a member of OSAID, and the
newly created Spirit Club.
Athletically, Kim has played volleyball, bas-
ketball and soccer for the last five years. Re-
cently, Kim has obtained the award for MVP
for soccer.
Kim is the daughter of Herman and Pam
Wulterkens of Grand Bend.
Casey Lessard, although realizing he was
named after a puppet, has managed to kee
a smile on his face for the past five years. Ca-
sey has happily maintained honour roll
standing,throughout his years at South Hu-
ron, and although intellectual pursuits were
his principle interest for the past several
years, he was a peer tutor, a member of win-
ning Reach for the top Teams, and school
champion in several math and chemistry
contest - his main foci this year were Student
Council work and creative pursuits.
As Student Council Treasurer, Casey has
been able to express his flair for the dramatic
and his love of people and money. As a S.C.
Executive member, Casey was a prefect,
member of the many S.C. Committees and
the dance clean-up staff, and also wrote and
edited the S.C. Newsletter. Spo:tswise, Ca«
sey earned an assist in the Teachers vs.
OACs hockey game.
Caseyis a member of the Concert Choir and
also has lead role in Bring Back Birdie.
Along, with his close friends, Casey helped
form the "Reach for the Bottom Comedy
Troupe", an outlet for his elegant sense of
humour. Casey continues to work as a swim-
ming instructor in the summer and says he
will miss his three favourite things next year
as he leaves to study Business at University -
Student Council, South Huron girls and
money.
Casey is the son of Tomand Rita Lessard of
Huron Park.
Brian McInnes has had many fulfilling ex-
periences at South Huron during the past
five years.
A former football team co -captain, "Bran"
has also participated on the cross-country
and track teams while maintaining honour
roll status. Academically speaking, he has
been the top student in his grade for the past
two years and received awards last year for
the highest marks in OAC Biology, Sociolo-
gy and History.
With his wide range of study,'Brian has at-
tempted to bring honour to his beloved
school through competing in the Canadian
Bar Association Mock Trial in grade 11 and
in the Blyth Festival HistoricalDebate team
in grade 12. He was the only student from
South Huron to compete in the 1993 Chemi-
cal Institute of Canada's National Chemistry
competition.
One of this year's OSAiD co -chairperson's,
Brian has kept himself busy through being a
peer tutor and a three year member of the
Guidance Support Team. He was also a per-
former in this year's school production
"Bring Back Birdie". A winner of an Excel-
lence in Public Education Award, Brian will

.Brian is the son of Don and Theresa McInnes
of Exeter.
Fred Godbolt has been involved in many
different extra -curricular activities through-
out the duration of his five years at South
Huron, while maintaining his academics.
Sports have been one area which Fred en-
joyed. in grade 9-11 he was a member of the
badrhinton team,advancing to WOSSA in
grade 11. He has played on the hockey team
- which this year he was the captain of, as
well as being. a member of the curling_and
rugby team. He was also an Athletic Council
executive.
During the last two years, Fred was a cast
member of the schools production: Magic
Moon and Bring Back Birdie. He was a peer
tutor for both those years. This year he was
a choir member and Spirit God.
Academics have been equally important for
Fred., He has made the honour role three
times and this year was a member of the Sci-
ence Olympics team which particpate at
York University. Presently he is represent-
ing the young adults of Huron County on
the District Health Council Steering Com-
mittee which is important ideas which affect
the future of health care in Huron County.
Fred plans to study Engineering at the Ui-
versity of Waterloo or McMaster next year.
Fred is the son of George and Lois Godbolt
of Exeter.
Troy Robinson is an OAC student who has
exhibited much school spirit and leadership
ability over the years. This year Troy as the
President of Student Council is an excellent
role -Model for.other students in terms of re-
sponsibility. Over his five years at
S.H.D.H.S. he has maintained an "A": aver-
age. }le adds to his Academic Achievement,
numerous school activities. He is a member
of the Cycling Club and an OSAID member.
He has been a prefect during his senior
years and this year is a Co -Chairperson of
Students' Against
Violence Committee. He was also honoured
this year with an "Excellence in Public Edu-
cation Award".
Troy is the son of Betty Robinson of Exeter.
)ay Hitchcock has been a member of South
Huron's student council for the past four
years and this year (1992-93) he was a mem-
ber of the athletic council. Jay has been a
prefect for the past three years in 1992 held
the position of head prefect, a position that
was given to him by this year s
student council executive.
in 1991, Jay and some friends headed up a
special division of the prefect called The
Grunt Squad, which was formed and man-
aged by them. More recently however, he
was involved with seven other in the crea-
tion of a new club at South
Huron, The Spirit Club.
in 1992 Jay was the vice-president of a
group at the school called O.S.A.I.D., which
was used to eliminate drunk driving.
in the past he's been a part of the track and
field team and more recently a member a
the senior badminton team. Jay has been in-
volved in many school plays He was a danc-
erin the production for Fame, last year held
the lead position in Magic Moon and this
year held the lead role of Albert in Bring
Back Birdie.

versity in Ottawa to major in psych ogy.
