Senior baseball Express easily beat Arva EXETER - The newest entry into the Great Lakes Senior Baseball League did not get a very warm wel- come from the Exeter Express last Tuesday night. The host Express beat Arva 12-4 to up their league record to 2-3-1. They were hoping to make it two wins in a row last night when they hosted Strathroy. Against Arva, the Express held a commanding 7-1 lead after the first inning as third baseman Bill Glover tagged a pitch over the rightfield fence for a three -run homer. Exeter starting pitcher Marty Memer came up with a big defen- sive play from the hill in the top of the second as he doubled off a run- ner following a hard hit ball right back to him. Arva threatened to get a few runs of their own in the third but once again a ball was hit hard to Merner and he made the play which stopped the rally with two runners on base. Exeter bats continued to swing in the bottom of the third as Rick Boon singled to score a couple. Exeter struck for its only run in the top of the first on a pair of hits from Mike Agnew and Mark Gla- vin. Lucan responded With five in the first and added runs in every in-, ning thereafter. PUBLIC NOTICE PHILIP tNVIRONMMMIAtINt Maitland Resources, a joint venture between Sifto Canada and Philip Environmental, proposes to establish a storage and placement facility for post recycled industrial residuals in the Sifto Goderich rock salt mine. The mine is located on lands in the Goderich harbour The proposal may include a sorting and recycling facility aIle mine site. The type of materials under consideration will be limited to carefully selected and screened solid. bulk. post recycling residual industrial materials. The materials to be considered for placement in the mine will include solid Industrial waste. Approval of this proposal may be required under provincial and/or federal legislation, including Environmental Assessment Act of the Province of Ontario. Evaluation of the proposal will involve a study of all environmental, transportation, safety, land use. economic and other factors associated with such a facility. Maitland proposes that this evaluation be carried out with full public participation by the Goderich community. As the first steps in the process of evaluating the proposal, Maitland will hold a public meeting aI0 form a public Study Group. All interested are invited to attend a: PUBLIC MEETING Thursday.
