Times Advocate, 1993-06-09, Page 14Ladies' fastball Wilds pitches well but Greys std manage win EXETER - Although the Exeter Greys picked up their third straight South Perth Ladies Fastball League win last Tuesday night, it took a come -from -behind win against some tough pitching to do iL Trailing 3-1, the host Greys plated three runs in the bottom half of the :fifth inning to edge the Crediton Classics 4-3. In their previous game against Sebringville, Exeter scored 21 runs but Crediton starting pitcher Brenda Wilds threw very well over four innings before getting tired in the fifth. Crediton, who lost a 15-14 slugfest just two days earlier, took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third frame when Heather Taylor scored after a couple of Greys' errors. The next inning saw the visitors jump into a big Lead as Deanna Olmsted and Karen Silva got on and then Heather Taylor blasted a triple to make it 3-0. She was out when Exeter outfielder Cheryl Oke made a good throw to third where Dianne Willis.put the tag on Taylor who was trying to stretch her hit into a triple. Exeter got a run back in the fourth when Sandi Skinner was safe on a fielders' choice and she scored on Sheila Dougail's triple down the third base line. With two out in the fifth, Exeter's Kendra Arthur singled, Sherry Har- burn doubled and Willis had a base hit. Those hits, along with walks to Oke and Dougall allowed the Greys to go ahead and load the bases. Becky Morgan came on to relieve Wilds and she struck out Lisa Hender- son to retire the side. Exeter had a chance for more runs in the sixth as pitcher Patti Down: walked, moved to second on Arthur's base hit but Down was doubled off when Morgan snatched a line drivel and threw it to Teresa VanRaay at second. 8.37; 2.
