Mansion Isiicom• GRAND BEND - The Huron County Playhouse has come a long way since 1972. Peaceful, friendly and relaxed are just a few words which best de- scribe the very popular theatre. A rustic atmosphere where pa- trons sit in an actual century -old barn, has brought many hours of entertainment for those who have passed through the front doors, now opening for the 22nd year. Huron County Playhouse is where the old meets the new and continued expansion has become a pleasantry for those who make the theatre come to life. Gone are the days when stage- hands, carpenters and technicians were cramped in small quarters. The transformation over the past two decades has seen the Playhouse turned into the third most attended theatre in Ontario. Building On a Dream is the theme of the mid 1990's .as She recently completed $881,077 renovation brings to the public Phase One of a new Playhouse. While the audience will have no contact with the additions completed just last month, for those who work behind the scenes, it has made a world of difference. "They're thrilled, it's just like coming out of the stoneage," said Playhouse Artistic Director -General • Manager Max Reimer. "It was a Story and photos by Fred Groves 'Nuron Country Playhouse has a tracts thousands of theatre -goers warm atmosphere which every summer. at - nightmarish situation to work in." Expansions: The additions in- clude a large area adjacent to the stage which houses a huge paint shop, carpenters shop and a well needed storage area from where props and costumes can be easily accessed. Expansions for next spring in- clude structural improvements to the stage and constructing a flytower. The flytower will enable Reimer to create without any height restric- tions. Friday night prior to a rehear- sal showing of Oliver, Reimer told the Exeter Times -Advocate of the Playhouse's future productions. "Next year we want to put on Pe- ter Pan, that's something we wouldn't think of before." While the actors including feature performers Aidan DeSalaiz and Todd Stewart of Oliver, are on stage, it's also the talented skills of the backstage crew which put the show together. Carpenter Richard McLeod, standing beside sandbags and pul- leys which are now used to help in the maneuvering of props said, "it's adequate for this year but next year hopefully they'll build a flytower where the can fly things in and out." During a tour, McLeod said the set for Oliver, designed by Robert Ivey, took about three weeks to build in the new shop. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • o . 14 14 . 14 14 14 14 . . 11 14 • •+ • • • • • • • • s. •• • • • • • • • • • • • •.• • • • • • • • in • • IVIE,56r3-1Witeritik 111111001We FIL;:11 itiNgi sen Count on these fine firms for quality, value and service To advertise our business call 235-1331 • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • c, • • • • • • • • • • • • 'f • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • T ABATTOIR ABATTOIR CUSTOM KILLING and SLAUGHTERING Kill Day - Tuesday Specializing in home cured and smoked meat Abattoir, and Meat V e a l s Market 235-1123 BUILDER BUILDER Doug Geoffrey Construction Ltd. • Residential • Commercial This space co.uld he yours Phone 235-1331 • Agricultural • Renovations DESIGN BUILD Consultant on R-2000 Homes 2000 235-2961 11 46;3/ 1 BUILDER A DINO1MAE CONSTRUCTION LTD. •Custom Homes • Aluminum & Vinyl acting • Roofing A -z",' • Additions 17• Dashwood 237-3516 CABINETS Ni TRIM (-Custom Cabine7 & Kitchens BLUEW TER • CABINETS & TRIM 89 Don Street Clinton, Ont. 482-3382 J CONSTRUCTION • CALL US FIRST For prim • Service • Availability • Flagstone, Paving Stone, Field Stone • Over 500 d tierent brick • H.•dators 8 Gas Fire places • Precast concrete TpOUNTY MRICK O/B CO -JIM CORP S4NCE 1977 PHONE: 413 BMs•►d Rd., Clinton, Ont.
