Thursday morning in Goderich at county council, .Zurich reeve -Bob Fisher put forth a motion which would urge the Ministry of,the Environ- ment to reconsider one of Huron's original candidate sites for a county- wideiandfill site. Manfred Loerzel was found guilty of driving without due care and attention when he lost control of his car and entered a ditch. Speed and road conditions were also factors. He was fined $265 and given 60 days to pay. Licence suspension Norman Alsop, of London pleaded guilty to driving while sus- pended in an April 28 incident. Exeter police, using radar. clocked Alsop travelling 122 km in an 80 km zone. Alsop said he was driving a friend to the hospital. When police checked his licence they found that Alsop had been notified of licence suspension in December 1992. He was fined $505 and given six months to pay. tC7 CHEVROLET Rob Evans pacity in its municipal landfills and have been looking for a site for a large landfill which would service the entire county. Fisher's motion however was tabled after Goderich's John Doherty sug- gested that .the.concerns of the •public following a pair of recent public meetings in Blyth and Hensall, and the numbers of approval or disapprov- al of which they produced, be considered. Council agreed with Doherty, delaying the new site even further but not before several councillors made their feelings known. Although the unpaid taxes, won't influence this year's mill rate, it :-could in 1994. "In 1992, we put money into a number of reserves including the fire department for a new fire ' truck," said councillor Cane Ivey Monday night. The general municipal increase in the mill rate is 3.79 percent but low- er county and school taxes bring the .average down slightly. "We gained some assessment through boundary agreement but we lost some unconditional grants," said Ivey. He added that according to the Municipal Act, the $24.000 deficit has to be built into the 1993 budget. Ivey said this year's budget is ap- propriate. Fisher said the county should urged the MOE to take another look at one of the candidate sites in Grey Township. "I do not feel this is the safest area we can find in Huron County. There are many springs in that area," said Leona Armstrong of Grey Township. Scott Metzger, Waste Management Master Plan co-ordinator said, as part of the plan's Stage 2C, test drilling would be done in the winter on new candidate sites. "If this delays the process, we won't be able to make the test dates," said Metzger. He also indicated to coundil, that Tumberry Township's landfill is al- ready reaching capacity, more so than the other landfills in the county. "The longer we wait, the less capacity we have," said Metzger. There was also a great deal of concern on Thursday over the MOE's ob- vious tardiness in coming up with the 50% of funding for plan stage 2C which has already been done. "Theinitial concem of mine is the funding. This is a very expensive pro- cess,"said Fisher. 'Hay -Township's Lionel Wilder and Hulleu Township's Tom Cunning- ham were concerned over the MOE's delay in providing funding. "If they make the decisions than they have to come up with the money," said Cunningham. zai J: :POULAN WEED/EATER CANADA a FACTORY AUTHORIZED UIDATION * *Factory is closing** * * New & Re -conditioned Products * * 9" Grass Trimmer Model PT 92C Reg. $29.99 99 PrOducts may not be as illustrated Clip Quick Cordless Hand Trimmer Electric Chain Saws Reg. 12" model CC212 4" model CC214 16"model CC216 Electric Lawn Edger Model 960C keg. $84.99 4j99 Electric Grass Trimmers Reg.
