STAPFA - Peggy Kerslake pre-
-.sided for the May meeting of the
Marian Ritchie W.M.S. held in the
Cromarty church basement last
Tuesday evening. Kerslake opened
with a poem "Touch God's Earth"
followed by a hymn, which was ac-
companied on the piano by Betty
Lou Norris.
Jean Carey led in the worship ser-
vice reading "God gives us new
life" and the "Almond Tree" fol-
lowed by prayer. Members an-
swered the roll call with a verse on
Life.
Roberta Templeman gave the
study book on the middle east, tell-
ing about their many beliefs, finish-
ing with a short dialogue assisted
by Mary Elliott.
Betty Lou Norris gave everyone a
chuckle with her reading, "Why
Farm Women Age Fast!" During
business conducted by Kerslake, fi-
nal plans were discussed concern-
ing the garage, craft and bake sale
on Saturday.
It was surprising to have apple
blossoms by the bowlful for May
12, when Verlo Mahon conducted
the opening programme of the Hib-
bert United Church Women, with
thought provoking poetry after
which we sang "Let there be Peace
on Earth". Mary F. Dow acted as
pianist for the evening.
The group was privileged to have
as their guest Vera Kemp of Mitch-
ell, who with husband Earl, had vis-
ited the Orient late in 1992. In a
very interesting way, she suprite-
mented her video with personal
comments about the ancient build-
ings and culture of the East. What
they were shown, she felt, were of-
ten show pieces. No doubt there is
a poorer side.
We were sorry when she shut off
the video, but we then went into a
period of questions when Vera
gave us her ideas about food, travel
and language barriers.
During the business we had re-
ports. Our Strawberry Supper falls
on the same date as St. Columban's
special evening. We regret it.
Women's Inter Church Council of
Canada advised us that Palestine
will prepare the 1994 World Day of
Prayer programme entitled, "Go,
See, Act".
The April Event in Brussels drew
an attendance of 255, when Dr. Jas.
Hollingsworth used slides and mu-
sic to enhance his topic, Greening
on the Earth. "It is everyone's re-
sponsibility. We must return ,to old
methods and faithfully recycle,"
said Hollingworth. "I am myself
and what is around me if I do not
save it, it will not save me!"
The June meeting is set for the
16th, with Jay Dearing and Ada Pe -
thick in charge of our "dine out".
On June 6, no service at Hibbert,
but the group is planning to join
with Thames Road United at 11
a.m. for worship.
Marjorie Drake was in charge of
the social hour.
