The Centennials who failed to win a game last year but did man- age five ties, were very tough in the opening half at the Canners Field but the defenders got tired and the visitors booted in four goals in less than 30 minutes. "We were totally out of gas and we had no subs," said Centennials' coach Dick Lord. Very early in the game, the hosts threatened with lots of pressure but could not score. Peter Hakvoort worked hard down the left side and had a couple of opportunities. Central America had a couple of corner kicks in the first half, the first one was quite weak but the second required Exeter goalie Craig Winbow to go high into the air and knock it away. Perhaps the best chance Exeter had in the first half was when Shawn Rotteau broke up the middle but his momentum resulted in a wide shot. Late in the half, Exeter's Dave Holmes twisted his knee and did not return to the game which meant the locals had to go the distance May 7 Exeter 12 at Dashwood II 9 Triples: Chris Armstrong Doubles: Megan Gauer (2), Mary Gre- gus, Nathan Holmes, Armstrong Fly balls caught by: Steven Mason, Meg- an Gaiser Double play by: Gauer May 8 Exeter 10 at Lucan II 5 Home run: Nick Anstett Doubles: Ansteu, Tony Ens, Holmes Future games: May 12, Lucan I at Exet- er, 6:30 p.m., D.11; May 14, Exeter at Dashwood I, 6:45 p.m.; May 16, Dash- wood II at Exeter, 5:15 p.m., diamond 12, • Exhibition game May 5 Exeter 12 11 at Exeter 11 22 Play of the game: Fly balls caught by Mike Marshall and Angela Weido. Sept. 25 - Fury at St. Thomas, 4 p.m. with no subs while Central Ameri- ca had several fresh bodies availa- ble. "We were missing a few starters and it was a little frustrating," said Lord of the game. The game remained scoreless un.. til about 15 minutes into the second- half when Central America scored., the only goal they needed off a cor- ner kick which came out in freta and went to the left of a diving Winbow. It was 2-0 about three minutes later -on a hare shot which defender Pat Donnelly tried to get in front of and Winbow was caught way out of net for the third goal. With just a few seconds left in the game a well placed ball made it 4-0 for the visitors. Sunday, the players on both teams were trying to adapt to a new rule this year involving the goal- keepers. "They are trying to cut out any intentional passes back," explained Lord. "If its intentional it gots against the team that did it and it's a free kick." He also said the reason for the new rule is to try and open the game up a bit and get more shots. (IIA (t NEED TERMS? See -us about .our popular lease to own plan!
