Lots of activities for Zurich residents By Carmel Sweeney ZURICH - There vnl be a fund . raising dinner by Teen Mission for Justin and Darcy Scott on May 12 at the Zurich Mennonite Church be- ginning at 6:30 p.m. The Rec league held their -010- f the season hockey bangdlt, ?e at the Zurich arena on Friday night which included trophies and awards given out. Children can still sign up to play baseball for the summer by phon- ing Sylvia Smale at 236-4541 or 262-2410 as soon as possible. T -Ball and 5 -pitch start on June 24; in town on Saturday momings begins on May 29 while house league starts May 25. The Ladies Auxiliary held their last meeting at the rest home on May 4 Which began with a musical program by Mozart Gelinas Junior and two daughters Aimee and Chantel. Following the entertainment and lunch the meeting began. There are 45 paid members. Nine birthday cards and two sym- pathy cards were sent out as well as four flowers given to welcome new residents. Clarence Smillie who lives at the home has donated one of his hand- made caned chairs to the Auxiliary for a draw. Two members will be going to the Sunnyside Nursing Home on May 20 in Kitchener. The annual Mother's Day tea and bake sale was held on Saturday. The winner of a decorated "but- terfly cake" made and donated by Mary -Lou Erb was Vera Thiel, while a baby quilt donated by Ina Neeb went to Gerry Kane, Zurich. The quilt sold by Silent Auction went to Barb Shephard. Each lady resident was given a corsage for Mother's Day by the Auxiliary. I The next meeting will been lane 1 at 2 p.m. -- The winners of plants for a Moth-' er's Day draw at the Dominion Ho- tal were Marion Becker and Lylyan Greb, both of Zurich. The annual bowling banquet was held last Saturday night with a good turnout. The Monday Night ladies team along with the Tuesday night men's league and Thursday night mixed all had a roast beef dinner, and mu- sic by a live band. Next years executive team will be the "Silly Six" for the Ladies League. The Grade seven and eight pupils from St. Boniface School were con- firmed fast Thursday with Bishop Sherlock officiating. The Grade two pupils of Se l oni- face School are making their first communion. A family get-together was held at the farm of Paul and Heather Klopp on May 9, which included relatives and friends of the Klopp and Swee- ney families. The occasion was in honour of their son Tim Klopp's First Com- munion as well as Mother's Day and Heather's "30th" birthday on May 10. Sunday included a pork barbecue. Guests were from Scotland, Toron- to, Florida, London, Clinton, Mitchell, Barrie and the Zurich area Congratulations to Jane and Tony Lansbergen on the recent arrival of their ninth son who was baptized on May 2 at St. Boniface Church by Fr. Hayes. Congratulations to Pat Haggitt and Laurie Slatergraph who were married on May 7 in Clinton. Happy birthday to Alice Masse and Clarence Farwell on May 10; also Kevin Geoffrey on May 8. Earl and Doreen Oesch had their family home for the weekend to celebrate Mother's Day. Dorcas Oingerich of Toronto spent the weekend visiting with her parents, Lewis and Marler Ginge- rich and brothers. Gwen McEachem of Toronto spent a few days last week with son-in-law and grandsons, Allen Scott. Beth Sweeney of Toronto and friend Petar Nikolic spent Saturday and Sunday with her parents and relatives. Vic and Irene Hartman spent the weekend in Windsor visiting rela- tives. The pupils of the Zurich Public School are to be congratulated on a job well done last Wednesday eve- ning when they put on their spring concert. Zurich WI ZURICH - The Zurich W.I. held their monthly meeting on May 3 with 14 members present. For the topic Agriculture, the members vis- ited a deer farm. These deer origi- nate in New Zealand and are used for meat. The climate in New Zealand has areas similar to ours. During cold weather the deer can be in or out of buildings. Ina invited everyone to her apart- ment to the common room for the meeting. The committee opened the meeting followed by the topic 'life on the farm' by Josephine De- nomme. President Bridget then took charge of the business meet- ing. Donna gave the report of the last meeting. Kay gave a summary of the spring board meeting. A do- nation to be made to the Canadian Cancer Society was approved.
