cluded in that schedule is three
double-headers.

it boils down to pitching," said
Dickey.

Stratford Junior Hitters last sum-
mer.
EXETER - The Great Lakes Sen-
ior Baseball League senior begins
Friday for the local Exeter Express
and despite losing four key players
are looking to be competitive.
First baseman Dave Shaw, third
baseman Barry Baynham, pitcher
Paul Elston and catcher Kevin
Herr have all retired. Walt Parkin-
son takes over as coach.
"I think we'll be alright," said
second baseman Rob Dickey who
has been taking care of some of the
administrative duties for the club.
Exeter opens against host Lake-
side on Friday and their 22 -game
regular season schedule continues
DONALD S. CHERRY FOR PRIME MINISTER!
At the urging of millions of people, I've decided to throw my hat
into the ring for the P.C. PARTY. It is time the right wing people
are represented and the people who pay the piper are going to start
calling the tune. The honest hardworking guys and gals are sick and
,pred of paying •the freight for CHEATERS, fleoplavdio don't want
to week and make a living at Cheating On everyihattd-oil from
Gbireittinent. People, like myself doil't Mind helping the sick a td
disabled and those who can't work who really need assistance and I
know what it's like to be unemployed. In the early seventies I
worked 8 hours a day and the guy handed me 16 bucks. That's right,
2 dollars an hour and I had to supply my own transportation! I had
no pension, no health benefits, no trade skills, no education and no
job or prospects, but I did have 2 kids to feed and clothe. So, I feel
for the guy who can't get a job and God love ya but for the SLIME
BALLS who sit at home collecting poagy and welfare who laugh at
the rules and regulations with no intentions of looking for a job....
LOOK OUT!! ATTILA THE HUN is here and your days of loaf-
ing are over.
HERE'S MY PLATFORM
1. Anybody caught cheating with WELFARE will be forced to
sit and watch 10 hours of a SWEDISH and FINNISH hockey
game.(I know this is cruel and unusual punishment, but we must
stop this welfare fraud!)
2. Declare war on any country that steals our fish, from NEW-
FOUNDLAND h one Cod in our water and your boat will be
seized and yoall have to deal with Captain BOB PROBERT.
3. My Bill of Human rights would include and declare that since
we have spent billions on the METRIC SYSTEM, that when we
have an escaped murderer who's at large, we should not give his de-
scription like 5 ft and 180 lbs. I've noticed that while our left wing
media gives almost everything in metric, when it comes to murder-
ers at large, for some reason they use the Imperial system. This must
stop! Afterall. murderers have rjghts too. Let's give them a chance.
4. Bring back the DEATH PENALTY! By "hanging" of course
so save some money on electricity and also save by using the rope
over and over. Environmentally friendly too.
5. For every FRENCH sign in ONTARIO, one ENGLISH sign
must go up in QUEBEC.
6. A fund set up to send anybody who lands in CANADA without
a passport (so they can live off the country s • • ata;a refugee. living
quarters, food, OHIP. etc., all on the poor : •: of the taxpayer for
5 years until our crowded courts get to them.,'.. And by then they
might have had 10 kids) OUT! This fund would pay the expense of
putting them back on a slow boat to •
where they came from.
7. Finally, I have a confession to
make. (Like my learned Honourable
opponents in the P.M. race did when
they confessed to smoking a joint and
inhaling too.) I, DONALD S. CHER-
RY in my past have on occasion have
had the odd pint and must sorrowfully
admit swallowing too!

Agnew's 440r-4 not
enough as Lucan wins
LUCAN - Exeter catcher Mike
Agnew went 4 -for -4, including a
home run plus a walk but it just
wasn't enough as Exeter dropped
their opening game of the Western
Junior Baseball League, 14-13 to
host Lucan.
Friday night under very clear
skies, the two clubs, both in the
season openers, battled to a 3-3
stalemate until the fourth inning
when Lucan went ahead thanks to a
couple of base hits.
The hosts climbed to a huge 12-4
lead after five full innings but Exet-
er roared back and scored three
runs in the top of the sixth frame
and exploded for six in the seventh
inning to go up by one.
But Lucan managed to put a pair
across in their half of the seventh to
win the game.
Besides Agnew, third baseman
Leigh Mathieson had a good night
at the plate as he had a single, dou-
ble and a two run homer in the
sixth. The next batter after Mathie-
son was Dave Schwindt who fol-
lowed with a solo shot of his own.
For Lucan, shortstop Steve Nix-
on who made a couple of nice de-
fensive plays, had three singles.
From the dugout: The Exeter
Juniors are in need of a manager,

administrative side 'of things,
please contact Brad Gregus at 235-

Men's Fastball
Imperials open season Thursday
EXETER - The look of the Chrysler Imperials is
certainly a changed one.
Exeter's entry into the South Perth Men's Fastball
League has lost its number one pitcher but the local
club is still looking towards having a competitive
season.
Hurler Derwyn Hodgins has left to join the Shed-
den Pests of the St. Thomas and District League and
joining him is catcher Brian Noyes who was also
with the Imperials in 1992.
"You can't help but be disappointed when you lose
one of the best fastball pitchers in Ontario," said
coach Fred Cook.
Cook is back at the helm of the team after Chuck
Humbey guided last year's club to the league finals
where they were beaten by the St. Marys Selects.
Two years ago, Exeter bowed to Sebringville Juniors
in the championship series.
This spring, the Imperials, which open their sched-
ule tomorrow night in Exeter against the Tavistock
Merchants will go with Dan Heywood and Rick
Scrimgeour on the mound.
"In the past our offence has suffered, we thought
we just needed one or two runs to win. We've got
more speed this year and well have to manufacture
more runs."
Brian Sowerby, who has played in
London the past several years will
be behind the plate. He was with
Exeter five years ago and Cook describes him as, "an
above average defensive catcher."
Kevin Lightfoot returns at first base while Rod
Johnston, Heywood at shortstop and Kevin Windsor
at third round out the infield. Mike I)esjardine is ver-
satile and can play second, short or third.
Hard hitting Mike Neil, his brother Darren and
speedy Sandy Hyde will be in the outfield.
"It's not a bad mixture of veterans and relatively
young guys," said Cook.
