Seniors win consolation
EXETER - Despite the rainy
weather, Exeter's South HImop.Dis-
trict High School captured@le con-
solation championship of:their.own
Senior Girls Soccer Itaunam nt
held Saturday.
The hosts openeditbeioumaiaent
early with a 1.O»win over London's
Beal. Kristin Strong scored the
lone goal for the winners while
Ange Gould got the shutout.
Two hours deter in their second
game, it was Armstrong scor-
ing in another 1.0 victory, this time
over Listowel. Lisa Robertson got
the shutout.
At 1 p.m., the Panthers went into
their third game and :this time bat-
tled St. Thomas' Central Elgin to a
scoreless draw at the end of regula-
tion play. It was Central Elgin win-
ning in the shootout which saw
South Huron head to the consola-
tion finaL
In the final, the Panthers once
again .found themselves in a shoot-
out•after they played to a 1-1 tie
with West Elgin on Armstrong's
goal.: In the shootout, Strong boot-

On Tuesday, the Panthers hosted
the Central Huron Redmen from
Clinton and Thursday host the
Goderich Vikings.
Boys host this weekend: The
senior boys soccer team, which has
jumped into a great season, win-
ning all of their first three Huron
Conference games will host their
own tournament this weekend.
On Saturday, games will be held
at both the Canners Field and at the
high school.
Last week, the Panthers beat Sea -
forth 1.0 on Steve Farquhar's;goal,
Darren Kints got the shutout.
In earlier competition, Jeff Lin-
gard had two goals and Jamie Dou-
Work-
gall and Dan Martens each had one
in a big 4-0 romp over South Hu-
ron. Kinds picked up the shutout.
The Panthers have also beaten
Goderich in which Farquhar, Mar-
tens and Mark Brintnell scored.
Beaten at WOSSA: After
sweeping both the junior and sen-
ior divisions of the Huron -Perth
Confbrence badminton tourna-
ments; -the Panthers brought home
a bronze^medal from WOSSA.
In Sarnia, the boys' doubles team
of Ryan Smart and Jason Coolman
finished third and just missed a trip
to the provincial finals as they lost
15-13 and 18-13 to Westminster.

Zone champions place
second at Huron Perth
STRATFORD - Our Lady of
Mount Carmel boys basket-
ball team advanced to Hu-
ron -Perth after gaining the
zone champions title by de-
feating St. .Boniface, Zu-
rich and Precious Blood,
Exeter.
The local team trav-
elled to Stratford and came
home with a second place
showing.
Top scorer for the day was
Ben McCann with 32 points
who also helped the team
with strong rebounding. John Rut -
ten tallied with 10 points and also
played a strong defensive game.
Chris Reaburn •finished the day
with 14 points and was a key player
in overtime with his timely foul
shooting capabilties.
Other .scorers for the day were
Neil Revington, 10 points; Darryl
Romphf, 4 points and Pat Con-
lin, 3 points.
An excellent game
was played by the
whole squad t0 com-
plete the season.

popular instructional session for
pitchers, was at the school for the
second of three such .clinics. The
third one is scheduled for this Fri-
day in Huron Park at the Recrea-
tion Complex.
Among the guest instructors in
Exeter were Doug Charlton and
Derwyn Hodgins who pitched for
the Exeter Imperials last year, for-
mer Exeter catcher Brian Noyes
and second baseman Jim Allison.

Association's Henry Larsen won
the Black Tower Booster Club
Bluewater Association Zone roll -
offs Sunday at Mount Forest.
Larsen bowled 138 pins over his
Zurich Association league average
to win the game tournament and
will now represent Bluewater in the
Ontario Championship May 15 at
London's Fleetway lanes.

Zurich Association's Winnie van
der Spek won the Zurich Associa-
tion Black Tower Strike -It -Rich
three game rolloff Friday at Town
and Country lanes. She bowled 233
