Due to the new Lake Huron pipe- line water system, there are no re- strictions for water this summer. Residents are urged to keep in mind that all water usage in the village is metered and you 'must pay for whatever water you use. On the subject of sewers, there are still some ongoing start-up problems at the new sewage treat- ment plant, mostly involving the fi- nal filtration of the effluent. These problems have been identi- fied and the engineers are working on a final solution. The operator of the new sewage treatment plant reports that there is a large amount of foreign debris be- ing received at the plant and it of- ten impairs the primary filters. Res- idents are urged not to flush cloth, plastic or rubber items along with diapers, napkins and paper towels into the sewage system. Such con- taminants only serve to increase the operating costs and efficiency of the new plant. - The capital cost"fdr•hookup to the sewer system has been set at $2,500 for each four inch service. This amount is expected to be billed to be due late m the second quarter of this year. At the choice of the user, this amount may be paid up front or debentured over 10 years, similar to the water project. Debenturing for the water system is now underway. More than 70 percent of Lucan ratepayers have paid the water capital charge up front, leaving only $171,000 to be debentured. Demolition of the old water tow- er and the decommissioning of the wells and pumping station along with the possible sale of associated land at the well site and the pump- ing station site will complete the water project. Tenders for the dem- olition and decommissioning .have been let and the work shouldire wi- derway shortly, to. be finished by the end of the spring. OPP investigate thefts, vandalism EXETER - The Exner OPP are investigating several thefts and van- dalism reports occurring in the de- tachment area over the past week. A canoe stored on a cottage lot near St. Joseph in Hay township was taken sometime within the last three months. The canoe described as a camouflage painted Sports Pal with black styrofoam flotation aids on the side was chained to a tree on -*he lot. Closer to Exeter at Mile's Ford on ''Hwy. #4 sometime over the past two weeks someone removed a portable cellular phone from a vehi- cle in the lot. The phone .is de- scribed as .a Motorola Classic cell phone serial 11991 G S E2103. Shortly after midnight Friday night someone deliberately re- moved and damaged a mailbox be- longing to Marion VanDerhoek on Concession 12-13 north of Dash- wood in Hay township. Also over:this weekend a house belonging to Joe Hendricks on Concession 14-15 in Hay township had two new windows smashed out by persons as yet unknown. Sometime overnight Saturday an unknown vehicle left the roadway on Columbia Drive in Huron Park, knocking down a traffic sign and a clothesline pole. The vehicle left the scene.
