Last Sunday ministers in Huron -Perth Presbytery exchanged pulpits. Rev. Jim Allsop was the minister at St. John's United Church in Strat- ford. Rev. Ross grew up in London. In 1974 he graduated from Queen's Theological College and was -or- dained by London Conference. He has served pastoral charges in Sas- katchewan and Bay of Quinte Con- ferences. He is currently complet- ing his third year as minister of the Londesborough Pastoral Charge. The Responsive Reading was tak- en from Psalm 28. The choir sang "As Comes the Breath of Spring" accompanied by the organist Erin Kraftcheck. The congregation sang the chil- dren's hymn "All Things Bright and Beautiful" and Rev. Ross told she children's story "Changes Make Life Interesting." He read the scripture Exodus 14:5-18 and John 16:4-15. The title of his sermon was "What Should We Do?" Coming events . The North Middlesex District President Evelyn McNaughton of Ailsa Craig was the guestspeaker on her pct topic 'travel'. At this Mime she showed slides and gave a commentary on an out -of -the -ordinary trip to Athens in Greece, the Ukraine and Istanbul in Tur- key. Muriel Lewis chaired the meeting and mad a poem called 'Spring'. The annual financial report was approved and the district president took charge of the Installation of Of- ficers as follows: Hon. president Florence Riddell, president Muriel Lewis, first vice Florence McRobert, second vice Melba St. Denis, secretary -treasurer Flor- ence McRobert, assistant secretary Olive P. Hodgins, District Director Florence Bryan and alternate Muriel Lewis. Eleven other offices were also filled by election. Business discussion included finalizing plans for the 90th North Middlesex District W.I. Annual to be held at the Granton United Church in the evening on May 12, hosted by Granton and Prospect Hill W.I. branch- es. #1 Kirkton 4-H club The Greasy Grinders are pretty well on their own. On the evening of April -19. the fourth 'Small Engines' meeting was held at Jim and Lynda Hodgins' place. After opening with the pledge, during the roll call the members had a chance to. ask their leader Dave Proudlove a question .about 'the engine'. Then they went and worked -on their own engines. Church news The Anglican parish bible study group met at Mary Jefferies home on Thursday afternoon, April 22, when they continued with the 'Blessings' book. At the St. Thomas' Anglican church on Sunday, Rev. Stephen Emery led the service of moming prayer. The message was about the reconciliation between Paul and Mark which eventually furthered the gospel of Je- sus Christ. At the Granton United Church on Rogation/Rural Life Sunday, Pastor Normalic, Vaakes chose 'Rocks and Trees and. Sleeping Seeds',.as her -sermon topic based on the lessons from Isaiah 28, Job 28 and Luke 24. ' The choir sang 'The haven of frost'. The church was decorated with toy farm implements and farm animals brought by the Sunday School chil- dren. The Stretch into Spring exercise classes sponsored by U.C.W. Unit 2 commenced.last Tuesday evening and will be in progress on Tuesdays and Thursdays for siz weeks. In the evening a number of sing- ers from Centralia joined by voices from Hensel!, Zion and Elimville presented an Easter Cantata. Narra- tors were Rev. Peggy Geddes, An- drea French and Larry Skinner. Fol- lowing the Cantata lunch was served by U.C.W. The community was shocked on Monday evening when fire de- stroyed the Heywood Restaurant where we have gathered every sec- ond Monday for our euchre parties the last few years with a large at- tendance. - A short meeting was held on Fri- day evening and it was decided to not hold any curd partied for the summer with the hopes the Hey- wood Restaurant will be going full swing by fall again. Our thoughts are with Steve, Len and staff at this ' time. The club Teamed about recognizing currencies. The club saw some coins from other countries and learned about types of financial institutions. An interesting -fact learned was the the oldest bank in Canada is the Bank of Montreal founded by nine Montreal merchants in - 1817. The members learned how to calculate interest. At the last meeting for the club the topic was Give Yourself some Credit. Members learned what credit is, where it is availa- ble, types of credit and cost of credit. The members learned about applying for a loan, credit ratings, the Credit Bureau and hew to make credit work for you. The group learned some very valuable information and are glad that they decided to take this club.
