STAFFA - Jennifer Fuller was the guest speaker at the annual meeting of the Staffa Women's In- stitute, on April 14, in the town- ship hall. Jennifer has just returned from seven months of work with the Ca- nadian World Youth, a nonprofit organization founded in 1971. Through this organization Jennifer spent her first three months in a Canadian environment, at Pottage La Prairie where she worked with youth and did some work for a cable company. In December she flew to Man- chester, Jamaica where she again worked with the youth and lived with a host family. Jennifer said it gave her a clearer idea of future options and she had benefited from being involved in team work. Jennifer showed pic- tures of her stay in Manitoba and Jamaica and also displayed a few things, which she had brought home with her. Margaret Kemp introduced and thanked Jennifer for her talk. Mar- garet opened the meeting with the Institute 'ode and Mary Stewart Collect. Itesident Joyce Miller presided for the meeting. There were 9 malotbers and 2 visitors present. The officers and committees re- ported a goo' year. Nominating committees report was given by Marjorie Drake, and officers for the coming year were installed by Roberta Templeman. Officers for 1993 - 94 are: past president, Joyce Vivian; president, Joyce Miller; 1st vice president, Kay Smale; secretary, Lillian Douglas; assistant secretary, Es- ther Smale; treasurer, Veale Ma- hon; district director, Kay Smale; alternate, Roberta Templeman. The meeting:-tdjoatrlbdsid lunch was served by Margaret Kemp and Kay Smale. Hibbert United Church Women Barbara Pullman and Sandra Kemp are to thank for an impres- sive devotional given on April 14. Their theme was Springtime and Friendship which included scrip- ture, prayer and poem. We used two unfamiliar -hymns "Walk Soft- ly in Sliringtime: and "Reach out to your Neighbors." They had chosen a splendid vid- eo entitled, The Giving Tree. A good discussion followed. Verle Mahon chaired the busi- ness during which Dorothy Dow provided the official board report. Margaret Christiehad a communi- cation from the Canadian Bible So- ciety. Used stffiitps enable them to provide duplication, ovens, books, kitchen supplies, a van for San Sal- vador. Other helps go to Puerto Rico, San Juan, St. Kitts, for the deaf. A report was given from the United Church Womens London Conference from the Kenyan wom- en who visited Canada in 1992. Their project was to take chickens back to Kenya to improve the sup- ply of poultry products in their homeland. April Event - April 26, 6:30 p.m. Brussels Hibben United will be closed for services during July. May meeting will be May !2 at 8 p.m. Our guest speaker will be Vera Kemp of Mitchell.
