Young
Canadians forum
EXETER - Forum for Young Ca-
nadians, an organization which
brings students from all parts of
Canada to Ottawa each year to dis-
cover how governments work, an-
nounced that Melinda (Mindy) Bell
and Stephanie Cook of South Hu-
ron District High School will be
two of some 500 students partici-
pating in the 1993 program.
Students selected for the Forum
program take part in a number of
interesting acti sties in the Nation's
Capital, includMg actually sitting in
the Commons and Senate cham-
bers, talking to parliamentarians
and senior public servants, and vis-
its to Goverrunent House and the
Supreme Court of Canada. They
will also participate in a mock Cab-
inet discussion of immigration poli-
cy, and take part in a staged debate
on federal -provincial relations.
By the end of the week-long pro-
gram, the students will have
learned a great deal about the chal-
lenges and complexities in the way
their government operates. As well,
and equally important, they will
have acquirod a better understand-
ing of their fellow Canadians from
across the land.
Students rely on the support of
local organizations to assist in pay-
ing their fees for the program and
to help with travel costs not cov-
ered by a grant from the Secretary
of Slate.
Bell and Cook were supported by
the Exeter Legion, Exeter Lion's
Club, Kinetic Club of Hensel',
Hensel) Legion -Women's Auxil-
iary, Kinsmen Club of Hensel),
Hensel) and District Optimists,
South Huron District High School,
Students Council and the He asall
Legion
Cook will be attending the third
session of the 1993 program from
April 17 to April 24.
Bell will be attending the fourth
session of the 1993 program from
April 24 to May I.
