Police inquiry to last
up to 10 days
EXETER - Tuesday morning marked the opening of the Ontario Civil-
ian Commission on Police Services inquiry into the actions of the town po-
lice services board and the police chief.
Co-chairman of the hearing, Douglas Drinkwalter said the inquiry came
at the request of the police chief, the Chiefs Association, and the Ministry
of the Solicitor General.
The first session, lasting only a half-hour, determined that the hearing of
evidence, which may take up to 10 days, will start May 10 at 10 a.m. in
the town council chambers.
J.K. Caskey, representing chief Jack Harkness, suggested that the crown
may want to install an administrator for the force in this "emergency situa-
tion". Caskey also said the town is prepared to pull out of the police com-
munications system.
Drinkwalter apparently didn't share Caskey's position, saying "they're
certainly not going to pull the plug on the radio today."
Crown barrister David Brown said any members of the public wishing to
present evidence in the inquiry should get in touch with him to arrange a
possible time for presentation.

Zurich agrees to brochure
ZURICH - Council has decided
to purchase space in a promotional
brochure, provided the price is
right.
Councillors decided to go ahead
with plans to promote Zurich in the
South Huron Promotional Bro-
chure, it was decided at their regu-
lar meeting on April 8.
Although Zurich is already fea-
tured in a business brochure, Coun-
cil decided the additional coverage
was beneficial because the bro-
chure would be available at trade
.shows and purism boards. But the
original cost -of $307:99 plus an ad -1
,ditionai $200 f'or photos seemed a
rbittoo steep.
Councilor Marg Deichert said
she .was in ,favour of greater promo-
tion of Zurich, butcould not justify
spending $200 for photos. Council-
lor Barb Jeffrey agreed the addi-
tional ' cost was not worthwhile
since "The Chamber (Of Com-
merce) has 'lots of pictures of Zu-
rich.
