Competing against Grade 7 and 8 students, her project examined the effect water has on plants. She recommends watering every three to four days. Placing second in the science fair, Grade 7 and 8 division is Scott Willert and Jeff Reid for their project on erosion. Breakaway enjoyed :by a l l KIRKTON On Satur- day, 300 women from Stratford, Bayfield, London, St. Mar- ys, Grand Bend, Exeter and sur- rounding area filled the Kirkton Woodham Community Centre to en- joy the "Ladies Break Away" pro- gram hosted by the Zion West Unit- ed Church Women. The morning program began with names being drawn for a pedicure, hair styling and make up applica- tions. Ann Morley. Karen Brock. and Gail Baker provided the exper- tise for these treats. Gwen Dykeman was the first pre- senter on stage to demonstrate the preparation of an Easter brunch. Carolyn Johns was the lucky win- ner of this delicious brunch. Barba- ra French demonstrated her cake decorating skills next and two East- er cakes were given away. Home decorating ideas were pre- sented by Nancy Brock, Janet Cow- ard and Sandra Rowe. They showed the crowd how simple painting techniques, new wallpaper and simple windoW dressings change a room. After a noon buffet, Designer's Fashions . of Exeter presented a spring fashion show with the Zion ladies acting as models for the love- ly designs. This colourful display' was followed by .a lively aerobics class led by Laura Overholt and en- joyed by all. . The final demonstration of the day was a presentation of flower ar- ranging by Floral Designer, Beuy Bodenham. Three lucky ladies car- ried home fresh bouquets. Throughout the day approximate- ly 30 door prizes were given away. These included a gift certificate from Country Haven Bed and Breakfast, won by Mildred Ulch of Russeldale. An "In home decorat- ing consultation" was given lo Kay Lankin of Lucan. Alice Parsons took home a cuddly stuffed rabbhit. The final draw of the day was for a beautiful quilt that had been hand pieced by the late Gladys Hern and quilted by the Zion ladies. Sue Jones of Kirkton was the lucky winner. PS Weddings, etc. Selah Books, Grandma's Garden and the Huron County Health Unit had displays set up in the hall. Rural Connec- tions provided information for fam- ilies in stressful situations. Olga Hem's beautiful quilts and Dorothy Hern's delicate smocking rounded out the displays. Judging will be at 10:30 am. - 3 p.m. presentation of certifi- cates at 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.; an Open House at 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. and an awards presen- tation at 6:30 p.m. Elementary and secondary students from both the Huron Public and the Huron -Perth Ro- man Catholic board will be par- ticipating. Davis SAINtSBURY - St. Patrick's Parish Hall was again decorated with spring flowers for a bridal shower honouring Donna McFalls of Guelph, daughter of Ross and Audrey McFalls, whose marriage will take place in Centralia this month. The guests were welcomed and a short program followed. The bride-to-be was assisted by her maid of honour and brides- maids. After opening many beauti- ful and useful gifts the bride thanked everyone for coming and to Aunts Joyce Simpson, Alexia Tindall and Hazel Davis, also San- dra McDonald, Lauralee McCor- mick, Brenda McFalls, Nancy Simpson and Heather MacGillivray for their efforts in making it such a success. St. Patricks held a service of Holy Baptism - Renewal of the Baptismal vows on Sunday, April 4 at 8:30 a.m. Palm Sunday. For his children's focus Rev. Ste- phen Emery told the children about how special Palm Sunday is to re- member, as in Jerusalem people put palm branches on the road and waved the branches as Jesus came into the city. People were happy because they heard the wonderful stories about Jesus and knew of the exciting things that had happened and more to come. After singing the children's hymn "Jesus Loves Me" the children went to their classes. With the help of Hugh and Hazel Davis, the children made crosses from the palms.
