Palm Sunday in GB
GRAND BEND - A good atten-
dance was out on Palm Sunday at
Grand Bend United Church.
The opening organ prelude was
"Open the gates of the Temple"
played by Idella Gabel.
Pastor Colin Stover's sermon top-
ic was "If you wash your car, it will
rain". The scriptures from Matthew
21:1-11 and Psalm 118:19-29 were
read by Bette Tufts.
The children's hymn was "We
have a King". Pastor Stover's story
to children was an object lesson,
with a handmade paper Paha
branch that the children helped to
make.
Special music included a solo
"Hymn of the Last Supper" Sung by
Don McLean, with piano accompa-
niment by Lynn Tremaine. Two so-
bs were contributed by Judy Glen-
denning, as she sang "Grant us 0
Gracious Lord", by Handel and
"Go Now in Peace".
The young people handed out
daffodils to everyone as they left,
church.

.HENSALL - Some residents got
an early start last week when they
attended the monthly Breakfast
Club. Everyone enjoyed a new reci-
pe called Brunch Pie along with
toast, juice and coffee.
Pastor Vernon Dean of the Exeter
Pentecostal Church was the Minis-
ter and organist for the worship ser-
vice this past week. He shared his

Concentrating during a match at the South Regional Elementary School Chess Championships
on Monday were Judd Desjardine, left; and Mary Ann Grotentraast both of Stephen Township
School. The event was held at McCurdy School in Huron Park. First place went to Micheal Dun-
bar followed by Brian Huxtable and Pipo Ratanaphafouk, all of McCurdy and fourth place went
to Hensall's Jeff Reid.

THAMES ROAD - Rev. Jim All-
sop was in charge of the Palm Sun-
day Church Service on Sunday
morning.
Marilyn Vandenbussche and Da-
vid looked after the Lenten Candle
Liturgy.
The children of the Sunday
School and teachers paraded into
church in modern party style.
Rev. Allsop handed out Palm
Branches to the children and they
- went around the church waving
them as in the Jerusalem Parade.
Lori Richardson read a Scripture
Lesson Matthew 21:1-11.

residents ventured outside for " a
walk and breath of fresh air on a
beautiful warm spring day.
All day Thursday, Geri Fashions
from London visited Queensway.
Many. residents, family members
and people from the community
cameto shop for a variety of items.
In the afternoon, a Fashion shdW
was held with Queensway residents
modelling a range of fashions. Mil-
dred Gingerich, Jeanette McDonald
and Martha Moody were winners
of door prizes such as pajamas,
jewellery and stockings.
Friday afternoon ladies gathered
to help make a batch of cinnamon
cookies. People passing by the
kitchen could not resist stopping to
sample them hot out of the oven.
Upcoming events include a bingo
sponsored by Hensall Presbyterian
Church Women on April 19 at 2
p.m. and a birthday party and dance
with entertainment by Gladys Van
Egmond on April 22 at 7 p.m.

Wednesday, April 7 from 10:30
a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Brucefeld
United Church, a Rural Life Work-
shop. The facilitator Marvin Ander-
son is a consultant on an ecumeni-
cal basis in rural ministry and
theological education.
On April 9 there will be a Good
Friday Joint Service at Thames
Road at 8 p.m.
On Sunday, April 11 a Sunrise
Service will be at Elimville at 7:00
a.m. followed by breakfast. Church
services at the regular hours Elim-
ville at 10 a.m. and Thames Road
at 11:15 a.m.
On Easter Sunday, anyone who
wishes, may place on Faster Lily in
the sanctuary in memory of a loved
one. If you wish to have the memo-
rial put in the bulletin let Sharon
Passmore know by Thursday, April
8.
May 13, the E.T. Leonie Tunes
are going swimming at Kicks from
4-5 p.m. There will be a pizza.md
movie night which will be .an-
nounced later.
Saturday, April 10 from 1 p.m.
on will be a clean upday for raking
and cleaning up around the church.

art were on a bus trip recently to
Washington, D.C.
Murray and Beatrice Dawson re-
turned home recently after holiday-
ing in California.
Mac and Helen Hodgert returned
home on the weekend after having
spent the winter in Florida.
