ALVINSTON - The good news is
the Huron Park Pacers won the
-Western Ontario' Women's Hockey
_League 'B' division final; the bad
news is they won't be going to the
provincial finals this year.
Beginning Thursday night, the
Pacers won • five straight games in
three days including clinching the
league title but Sunday, they just
ran out of .gas and lost 3-1 to Clear-
water.
In Clearwater on Sunday, both
teams were subject to some-oontro-
versial officiating and it was the
hosts making the most of their pow-
erplay chances.
The win gave Clearwater a two -
games -to -one victory in the series
which determinedwho would go to
the provincial final tournament. In
•Huron Park Thursday night, the
Pacers skated to a 5-3 -win over
Clearwater which tied the series at

while The Exeter Centennials, .will

Fury.

But although they did not ad-
vance to the provincials. the- Pacers
still were happy with the division
crown.
Friday night in Alvinston, Huron
Park started with a 3-0 win over the
London .Royals • followed by a 3-0
win over London Senior 'D' Devil -
cues Saturdaymorning and in the

-The . final saw Pacers'. goalie Tess
Nethery -record her. third shutout of
the tournament Saturday .night _ as
Huron Park won the final game
with a 2-0 win over the Devilettes.

MARQUETTE., Mich. - Light-
weight' boxer Joe Kaak of Shipka,
beat Trince Chandler of Alabama
last week in an international boxing
tournament as he won in a 3-0 deci-
sion.
Kaak, who boxes ow of the East
Londottitoxing Club, is now off to
Bangkok, Thailand where he will
represent Canada at a five -country
tournament March 30 -April 9.
"This will be the firstinternation-
al tournament I've -gone ,to," said
Kaak.
The Ontario chatnpion 'was de-
feated by Dale -Brown a few
months ago for the Canadian title.
Canadian boxing officials are send-
ing Kaak to Thailand, basically to
•give Brown a rest.
"Dale Brown has a lot of experi-
ence and-they're•looking for a new
guy," said Kaak.
Brown is preparing for the World
Championships in Finland and so it
will be. Kaak who will represent
Canada in Thailand.
Kaak said he will have at least
three fights and if he wins two of
those, he will become a carded Ca-
nadian athlete which means they
will assist him in funding for his
training.
"As soon as I get two internation-
al wins 1 will be carded. I have
three ftghtsthere,'maybe four."
Curling
winners
EXETER - The Exeter Curling
Club held their final ladies bonspiel
last Tuesday and the rink of Elean-
or Beaver, Dale Bland, Sandy Ale-,
meesch and -Ann Kfungel were the
winners.
In the event which saw proceeds
go to the Thames Valley Children's
Centre in London, second place
went to Shirley Mousseau, Audrey
Rowe, Kay Elston and Ann Launts.
Third place winners were Elaine
McNair, Beuy Simmons, Gail Law-
son and Helen -Burton while the
travelling prize went to Janet
Team'', Michelle Hodgert, Laurie
Shantou and lain Downie.

CREDITON - Recently, the
McNutt family of Crofton was
honored 'by The Appaloosa 'Horse
Club of Canada eolith four 'National
year end High Paint Awards.
The 'houses, ownded by Bonnie,
Jennifer '_and -Will were .shown by
Bill and Jennifer.
Awards presented this month in
Alberta included, National High
Point 'Stallion and National High
Point Amateur Stallion won by the
horse MI IM IMPRESSIVE, and
LIL WHITE LIE "s►ron National
High Point Amateur Marc and Na-
tional High Point Broadmare.
The two horses were the only On-
tario Halter Horses to win national
high points awards. They were also
the only horses in the history of the
Appaloosa Horse Club of Canada
to win their Open and Amateur di-
visions in the same year.
Workout

EXETER - In preparation for the
upcoming baseball -season, the Ex-
eter Express of the Great Lakes
Senior Baseball League will be
ho/ding a meeting and a workout at
the South Huron District High
School on Tuesday, April 6 begin-
