Mist week, the Central Huron Red - men front Clinton went on a very tong road trip to Dryden for the Ontario Federation 01 Schools Athletic Association hockey championships. Although they did not win, they did manage to get out of their own pool and they did beat the number one ranked team from North Bay. The Redmen were ranked ninth out of the 17 teams and put in a pool which included St. Joesph's Scollard Hall front North Bay. That's who the Redmen took on first and they beat them 5-4. "We hadn't expected to be ranked that high. We've never played at OFSAA before," said Redmen assistant coach Jeff Reabum from Hensall. Reabum said Scollard Hall failed to make it out of their pool but the Redmen did advance to the quarter -finals where they were sent home following a 3-1 loss to Aurora St. An- drews. "We knew if we played to our potential, we could play with most teams," said Reabum. The trip to Dryden for the Redmen did not begin at the Cen- tralia Aitpatt:lastiite$day but started after they won the Hu- on-Peeth'-t3tte. Going to London to play to the Western Ontario finals was -slot-as easy.as expected because the Redmen were the outsid- ers, sort of like David taldug on Goliath. 'But while the -Price Road Trojans were booking their flights to -the Ontario championships, it was themild Redmen who snatched the.glory and packed their own equipment. After that,'thetstttir'e town of Clinton seemed to rally around the Redmen who#tad not won the Western Ontario title since 1940. The 1,800 kilometre trip to Dryden would have taken over 20 hours to drive tut it was just a two -and -a -half hour flight which was -made possible through a successful fund-raising campaign. "We expected support, but we were overwhelmed how quickly it came in and the generosity," said Reabum: The spring of 1993 will go down in the Clinton history book .as. -the year that a:group of young men and their many .supporters not only made it to the quarter -finals but won the Ontario Minor Hockey Association midget 'CC' finals as well. anY.ef the lith Q yors'avlio Avant to Dryden helped out temintabildimillndheiaddietsMeausiterlfteati a the l"byers i ut%,be .coDgratulated fo - winning, they, along with the coaching staff, should be com- mended for their ability to schedule games and practices around each other, it's not easy. f felines fiy Fred (: roves Fro the sidelines: Congratulations this week goes out to Shawn -Fairweather of Lucan who was named the MVP for the north team at the Shamrock midget all-star game in Lamb- eth on Sunday.
