Panthers bring home silver
EXETER The South Huron District High School
junior girls volleyball capped off an outstanding sea-
son recently with a silver medal at the Western Ontario
Secondary School Association 'AA' tournament.
After posting a 20-4 record, good enough for first
place in the Huron Conference, the Panthers opened
pool play at the tournament against Tillsonburg.
In that matchup, South Huron split their games 7-15
and 15-11 before going on to beat Samia Northern 15-
4 and 15-5 followed by 15-7 and 15-6 victories over
Listowel.
That was followed by a 1-15 defeat to Saunders but
the Panthers came right back and won 15-11 against
the tough London school. With a 6-2 record in pool
play, South Huron went into the semi-finals against
Stratford Central.
They lost the first game 12-15 but came back to win
the next two, 15-11 and 15-12. In the finals, South Hu-
ron went against Saunders where they Lost the first
game, a close 14-16 decision and the next one was 4-
15.
The WOSSA tournament capped off a very success-
- ful season for the Panthers who were consolation win-
ners at the Saunders Invitational, second at the Med-
-way Invitational, first in Kincardine and third in
Beton-Perth.
Exeter Mohawks eliminated
Continued from page 13
who had to be helped off the ice.
That seemed to give the hosts a lit-
tle spark but it was simply too little,
too late.
"It's pretty easy to spark when
they're sitting on a five -goal lead.
It's pretty easy to pressurc:a team,"
said Revington.... i.
Not enough players: This series
went back -and -forth as far as wins
go, and the breaking point for the
Mohawks no doubt, was losing 5-4
in Dunnville after having a four
goal lead with nine minutes left to
play in the fourth game. In that one,
the visiting Mohawks just didn't
have enough players.
Throughout the season, the locals
played several games, including a
couple in the plaoffs with a very
short bench.
"Sure you play better with less
bodies," said Revington. "It's prov-
en in this series if we had 18 skat-
ers and two goaltenders it probably
would have gone five games, six at
the most. We would have not lost
those two games on the road," he
said of lack of players.
