ZURICH - Three days, three gamsa•Wbts.
Sunday afternoon, the Zurichlasollonopped off an undefeated playoff
weekend and as a result, have gained a trip to the Ontario Minor Hockey
Association midget E' finals against Walpole Island.
Zurich swept the test -of -three semi-final series over Tamworth the two-
time defending provincial champions. A year ago, Tamworth eliminated
the Thunder in the semi-finals.
The weekend began on Friday, when, following a seven -hour bus trip,
the Zurich boys won the series opener with a slim 4-3 decision. That was
followed on Saturday with a 4-2 win and on Sunday afternoon with an
identical 4-2 score.
Friday: Dave Rathwell teamed with Blair Moir to give the Thunder a 1-
0 lead but the hosts were up 3-2 after two periods of play. Ben Geiger
scored the second Thunder tally from Jeff McLaren and Steve Geiger.
In the third period, it looked as though Tamworth had the game won but
a goal was disallowed because the net had come off. That gave the Thun-
der the chance to get back in it.
With 2:21 left to play, Steve Geiger scored unassisted and with just 1:14
remaining, Ben Geiger got his second, this one from defenseman Adam
Durand who knocked a Tamworth player down at mid -ice and got the
puck over to Geiger.
Cory Gingerich started in goal for the Thunder but was replaced after

ST. CLEMENTS - A 6-2 win for
the hosts, tied the Ontario Minor
Hockey Association bantam DD'
series at two points each on Satur-

and Daryl Boshart each had a pair
of assists.
Friday in the opening game of
the series, played in Lucan, Adam
Duskocy had a goal and three as-
sists -in a 5-3 win for Lucan. Also

ed two assists as well, Herbert,
Steve Greenlee and Denton Hack-
ney who had a goal and an assist.
England, Eric Kowalchuk and
Boshart helped set up the goals.
The series continued last night in
Lucan and moves to St. Clements
tonight for an 8:30 p.m. start.

EXETER - Despite bouncing back from a two -goal defecit, the Exeter
Legion peewees could not beat Six Nations Monday night in Ontario Mi-
nor Hockey Association playoff action.
In the second game of the six -point peewee 'CC' semi-finals: the visitors
won 7-6 after taking the series opener 4-1 in Six Nations on Saturday.
The third game is scheduled for tonight at the South Huron Recreation
Centre at 7:30 p.m.
Monday night in Exeter, the Lcgion peewees scored first when Jeff
MacLean connected from Luke Sims just 5:53 into the game but a minute
later, Six Nations' centre Cecil Hill tied it up with an ice level shot which
went past Joey Bierling and into the corner.
Cecil Hill's shot again from the point and this time it deflected off of a
leg and into the net. It was 3-1 for the visitors on a Ken Bombay back-
hander.
Just 51 seconds into the middle period, MacLean threaded a long pass
through traffic onto Dave Farquhar's suck and the Exeter captain went in
and tucked it under the crossbar to make it 3-2.
Farquhar, Tyler Bourne and Dave Marshall did a lot of hard work to tic
the game and it was Marshall jamming the puck in from the side of the
net.
Cecil Hill's third of the game, this one a backhander, gave the visitors
the lead again but it was then Exeter's turn to tie it up as Greg Geoffrey de-
livered a hard hit which eventually saw the puck come over to teammate
Scott Gilfillian who made no mistake in making it 4-4.
Jason Henhawk was all alone in front of the net and made it 5-4 for the
visitors after two periods.
But in the third, Exeter really came to life as Mark Bell drifted in from
his defence position and flipped it high. Luke Sims and MacLean assisted
on the goal that made it 5-5.
Just 1:15 later, Bell lugged the puck into the Six Nations' zone and Sims
eventually gave the hosts their first lead of the night. But with 2:44 left in
the game David Hill let go with a long shot and it was tied again.
Greg Hill notched thewinner from Cecil Hill on another shot that took a
wrong turn in front of Bierling. Exeter buzzed the Six Nations net right to
the final buzzer but failed in their attempt to send the game into overtime.
In Saturday's game, Farquhar scored the lone Exeter goal from MacLean
and Bell.

Saturday: Only 14 heWeia11er the long bus ride, the series continued in
Zurich and the hosts went up two games to none. Gingerich got the start
again and went all the way, allowing just two goals in a 4-2 win.
Tamworth was late getting to the arena but that didn't matter to Zurich
who led 2-1 at the end of the first period. Ben Geiger scored from Cam
Rader and Rathwell set up Darrin Durand.
Durand was hot in this one as he scored what proved to be the winner
from linemates Pat Regier and Ray Bierling.
In the third, Steve Geiger scored from his mates, Dwight Gingerich and
Ben Geiger.
Sunday: Zurich led throughout this one and once again Darrin Durand
led the way with two quickly -released shots for a pair of goals.
Blueliner Cam Rader started the game's scoring with a blast from the
point and Steve Geiger also connected. Winger Pat Regier had a great
game with three assists while Rader, Gingerich, Ben Geiger, Jason Regier
and Martin Regier helped out.
Despite being injured, Scott played well throughout the game in the
Thunder net.
As of press time, the schedule for the final series with Walpole Island
had yet to be determined. Walpole Island were prohibited by the OMHA
