I took just seven nights for the Irish to advance to the west division semi-final. Wednesday in Game Two, the Irish managed to stay away in a real yawner to have their biggest offensive night of the year, a 14-1 blowout. There were a lot of individual highlights on this night. The west divi- sion's leading scorer Greg DePrest had one goal and set up seven mors for a big eight point night. His linemates, Steve Moore and Sean Kaczmarek responded with six points each. Kaczmarek a big left winger, netted four goals and added a pair of as- sists. He admitted after the game, there was times during the contest when it was not enjoyable. "It was too slow and there was too much garbage going on. It took the tempo right out of the game, it just died," said Kaczmarek. Part of the garbage included a Lucan fan going behind the Belmont Junior 'D' playoffs bench, geuing into a fight and nearly being shoved into the Pests' bench. Other lows of the game included, just after Kaczmarek scored his sec- ond of the night, he immediately took a penalty on the following faceoff. "I thought the guy was going to tie up Greg's stick so I just tried to go in and take the body out," he said of his opponent. On Lucan's number one offensive line, Kaczmarek is the guy who goes to the net and takes the punishment. In Game One of the series he paid for it. "Last game I took four or five off the back of the leg. That included a couple of whacks from Pests' sticks and one or two shots from his own defensemen. Jason Wilson started Wednesday's scoring when he stole the puck and went in to beat ex -Irish goalie Mark Dunn. Also scoring for the winners were Chris Chater, Jim Stanton, Scott Rid- dell, Keith Robson and Ed VanKerkocrle. Art Watson had -the lone goal for the Pests who trailed 3-0 at the end of the first period and 9-1 after40 minutes. Lucan coach said it was hard for his team to keep up their intensity. "I thought they stayed in preuy well," said Needham. He hopes his team stays focused and look ahead to the next series. Frustration rose for Belmont, who had just 12 skates when captain Joel Hawks bounce back, win twice EXETER - After losing the first game of their best -of -seven OHA Junior Development west division quarter -final series with the Lamb- eth Lancers, the Exeter Hawks have bounced back in a big way. Last Tuesday -at ' home, the Hawks lost a close 2-1 defensive battle but on Wednesday, won big 7-2 and followed that up on Sun- day with an 8-4 win at the South Huron Recreation Centre. 'The start of Sunday's game was not pretty as both Lambeth goalie Jeff Baldacchino and Exeter's Clint McCann struggled. It was 1►0 . for the hosts when John Bell scored from the red line. Exeter captain Paul Manders was slapped with an unsportsmanlike penalty which saw Lambeth's Brent Moore tie it up with a powerplay goal. Exeter's Steph Audet scored from the blueline and that was the end of Baldacchino who was replaced by Brent Tindall. A fairly soft shot eluded Clint McCann and Bart Chinnick tied it for the visitors. Lambeth then jumped into a big two -goal lead as Tom Walker walked in and Scott MacDonald's backhander on the powerplay made it 4-2. But that would be the last goal the Lancer's would score on Clint McCann as he went on to stop the next 37 shots he faced. side to make it 7-4 and then with just 1:20 left in the game, he stole the puck and netted a shorthanded tally. WiGBIsisalIggr41 Although it was tied 2-2 after 20 :minutes, the Hawks exploded for three second period goals and a pair in the fmal 49 seconds of the game. In just his second game back in the Hawks' lineup, west division rookie -of -the -year Sean McCann netted both first period goals for the visitors. Also scoring for the winners were Ray Cousineau with a hat trick, Nick Szabo and Dan Ryan. ricers 2?.gawksl. There was no scoring in the very defensive contest last Tuesday in Exeter which saw the Lancers win Game One of the series. Following a scoreless first period, Ryan scored for the Hawks while lambton-Middlesex :Late in .the period, Lambeth's Cady .Lampman was given a five minute penalty and a game miscon- duct when he hit Todd McCann . over the head. McCann also went to the box and while the teams were playing four aside, Dave Dal- rymple scored right off a good faceoff by Derek Shackleton to make it 4-3. Exeter quickly tied the game when Audet blasted one from the point to tie the score at four each at the 4:48 mark. The second period belonged to the Hawks as Cousi- neau put one up high less than a minute later for what proved to be the winner. Audet got the hat trick at 14:08 of the middle frame when he was knocked down in the slot but still managed to get the shot past Tin- dall.
