Thames Road enjoys pancakes

THAMES ROAD - Rev. Jim All-
sop was in charge of the regular
church service on Sunday morning.
The Responsive Reading was tak-
en from Psalm 2:6-11.
The choir sang "Have You
Talked to the Man Upstairs" ac-
companied by the organist Erin
Kraftcheck.
The congregation sang the chil-
dren's hymn "Teach Me God to
Wonder" and Rev. Allsop told the
children's' story "Jesus Wants to
Protect Us". The Scripture Reading
was taken from Exodus 24:12-18,
Gospel of Matthew 17:1-9.
The title of Rev. Allsop's sermon
was "A Mountaintop Experience".
Pancakes, syrup and coffee were
enjoyed after church.
On Wednesday, February 23 at
9:30 a.m. Philippians Bible Study
at the Manse. Bring your own
Bible. All welcome.
U.C.W.
Elimville U.C.W. are hosting a
Friendship Night, Wednesday, Feb-
ruary 24, starting with a potluck
supper at 6:30 p.m.
Special guest speakers will be
Mervyn and Theresa Hem, relating
the experiences they encountered
while adopting a baby. from Roma-
nia. Bring your families and
friends. (Bring your own plates and
cutlery.)
On Monday, March 1 the U.C.W.
will hold their regular meeting. The
roll call is to be answered by "Nam-
ing your favourite book or maga-
zine and name the author of the
book". Lunch will be served by
Group C.
Friday, March 5 the World Day

Exeter United Chtgch. Speaker will
be Janet Papple.
Saturday, March.6 at 8:30 a.m. at
Thames Road Church a Men'
Breakfast will be held. Speaker will
be Norman Holbrook, a United
Church 'Agricultural Missionary in
Nepal.
On March 22 the Messengers
meeting will be held at Kicks in
Exeter from 7-8 p.m.

Horizons group holds meeting
BRINSLEY - The executive
committee of the McGillivray
Township History Group -New Ho-
rizons held its final meeting to re-
ceive • reports on the "McGillivray
Township Remembers, 1842-
1992" history book project and to
terminate the New Horizons
Group.
This group had been organized
under Health and Welfare Cana-
da's New Horizons Program for
the sole purpose of publishing the
book. It was confirmed that the
New Horizons group had fulfilled
all the requirements of the Minis-
try and that Health and Welfare
had terminated the agreement. All
accounts have been paid and a
modest cash surplus remains. The
small stock of books on hand is be-
ing constantly reduced by continu-
ing sales.
It was decided to reconstitute the
executive committee as the McGil-
livray Township History Group
with the same officers, namely:
Charles Corbett, president: Lloyd
Durr, vice president; Lois Morgan,
secretary; and Betty Coughlin, An-
drew Dixon, E. Jean Hodgins, Nell
McCann, Harvey Ross, Shirley
Thompson and Elizabeth Wright,
directors.
All workers, contributors and in-
terested persons arc automatically
members of the group. Lorraine
Hodgins will continue as project
coordinator.
Continuing history projects will
be discussed at a future meeting.
A pot -luck supper for all work- in the Township Hall, is planned

Optimists hosting Kid
Check in Zurich Saturday

ZURICH - The Zurich Optimist
Club, in conjunction with Child
Find of Huron County are having a
Kid Check, a child identification
program at the community centre
on Saturday February 27 from 10
a.m. to 2 p.m. Children are to bring
along their picture. Parents are
welcome to bring their youngsters
again, even if they had them regis-
tered last year.
Bingo
Brother Bob's Bingo is this Sun-
day at the Zurich Community Cen-
tre. It starts at 2 p.m. and will raise
money for Brother Bob Mittle-
holtz's mission in India. Women
are asked to bring along a dozen
cookies for the lunch afterwards.
Auxiliary
The Blue Water Rest Home Aux-
iliary will be meeting on March 2
at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Every-
one is welcome to bring a friend.
Women's Institute
The Women's Institute will be
having their next meeting Monday
March 1 at the Township' Hall. It
will be a quilting bee, so anyone
who enjoys quilting is welcome to
join in. The activities begin at 1
p.m. and include a pot -luck supper.

Sixteen teams took part in the
volleyball tournament held at the
community centre and St. Boniface
gym on the weekend. The winning
team was Danny Masse's group,
and the B champs were Steve Over-

Members of the Zurich Agricul-
tural Society attended the Ontario
convention at the Royal York Hotel
last week. The theme was
"strength in unity."
Representing Zurich were Marga-
ret Deichert and Carmel Sweeney,
and fair ambassador Becky Hart-
man. Also present was Hensall fair
ambassador Victoria Bisback.
Best wishes for a speedy recov-
ery go to Louis Denomme who is a
patient in St. Joseph hospital.
Sympathy is offered to the family
of the late Elaine Merner who
passed away on February 19. Her
funeral was held at St. Peter's Lu-
theran Church on Sunday.
