Despite his concentration, Jeffrey Johnson, a Grade One student at Stephen Central School, found keeping his balance on the ice no easy task. Jeffrey and his school -mates were treated to an aftemoon of skating at the Stephen Township Arena on Friday when their scheduled winter carnival was cancelled due to lack of the "white stuff" Local CWL among 400 to enjoy "Fun Night" By Carmel Sweeney ZURICH - A good time was had by the 23 women who attended the CWL "Fun Night" on February 9 in Stratford. A delicious pot -luck dinner was enjoyed by approxi- mately 400 CWL members from various parishes in the Huron -Perth Deanery. Afterward, the fun began with some councils entertaining with comical skits and musical programs. Two lucky women from St. Boniface won door -prizes. Personals Congratulations are extended to John and Bridget Groot Sr. on the occasion of their 42nd wedding anni- versary. A family dinner and celebration was held in their honour on February 13 at the Dominion Tavern. Lee and Rose Regier spent a few days in London this past week at the home of their son and daughter- in-law, Peter and Bonnie Regier and their grandsons.. They celebrated.their wedding anniversary on Febru- ary 11. Deep sympathy is extended to the family and rela- tives of Audrey McIntosh who passed away on Febru- ary 10. A private family funeral was held for Audrey in Toronto. Sympathy also to the family of George Grenier Sr. who died February 12 at the Blue Water LHome. Hid funeral mass was said at St.' oniface urch on Monday. Birthday wishes are extended to Charlie Jeffrey, February 20; Brian Depaepe, February 16; and Lee Regier who turns 65 on February 18. Wishes for a speedy recovery go out to Louis De- nomme who is in St. Joseph Hospital. Congratulations to newly-weds Donna Turkheim and Bob Finch who were married February 13 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church with several relatives and friends in attendance. Mother's Time Good turn -outs are reported at the Mother's Time support group which meets every other Wednesday Zurich Senior Diners By Gertie Fleischauer ZURICH - Seventy-three seniors enjoyed a beef dinner on February 10 at the Community Centre, which was decorated in a red and white Valentine theme. Tammy Antaya welcomed all diners and visitors, especially sen- iors from Dashwood. Kay Hay read a poem My First Valentine. Jerry Kane was the 50/50 winner. Door prizes were won by Aldenc Wolfe, Berdie Finkbciner, and Frie- -da Moore. Phyllis Deichert was in charge of the programme. Contests and singing were enjoyed. Exeter's Dining for Seniors EXETER - Hostess Tammy An- taya welcomed all to Dining for Seniors on January 5 after the heli- , k ys. Jean Hodgen played the key - bard for the opening and the fol- 1 lowing sing song, led by Pat Skinner and Grant Mills. Josie Ryckman presided at key- board on January 12. Draw prizes were won by Beuy Humphreys said Mary Meikle. Antaya read a ,pen, "Share a thought and resolu- tions." These sessions are for mothers with infants, toddlers and school-age children—babysitting is provided. The next meeting will be February 24 at 9:15 to 11:15 a.m. with the topic being, "Tips on Home Decorating." A suggested fee of $3 per session will help to cover the cost the speaker, "A Time of Fellowship, Learning and Fun." 4-H 4-H leaders Sylvia Neeb and Margaret Deichert will be attending a workshop at Clinton Town Hall on March 2 to prepare for the next 4-H program that will begin March 8 at Sylvia's home at 7 p.m. The topic of the program will be, "Animal Friends.". Anyone between the ages of 10 to 21 (boys or girls) in- terested in participating in this six-week course are asked to phone either leader at 236-4042 before the end of February to ensure enough books are ordered. Bowling The annual Big Brothers and Big Sisters Bowl-a-thon to raise money for the association will take place a the Town and Country Lanes in Zurich February 14-21. Various leagues will be participating. Staff from the Tender Spot and Seyler's will be partic- ipating in this year's Celebrity Bowl on February 21. Voice of Leo The Lion's Club held their last two meetings at the Dominion Tavern on February 8 and 15 with a good at- tendance reported. The club will donate $100 to the Big Brothers/Sisters Bowl of Millions. Three Lions recently attended a zone meeting in Stratford. Louis Willert was the winner of the 50/50 draw. The district A-15 convention will be held in Wood- stock April 2 to 4, and in Kitchener May 13 to 16.
