I really have to laugh when I hear people saying that hockey'# not
'*hat is used to be in CANADA, Yeh, they're right! The hockey to -
;day is better. If these clever people would go to the rinks and watch
,our kids in the tournaments, they would see the improvembnt, in

vitt the absence of the "boardirlg'-:.aadihe." aril"
and into the boards stuff.
I saw something in the ESSO BANTAM TOURNAMENT that
made my heart sing. A team was beating another 8 to 1 in the cham-
pionship games with ten minutes to go. The winning team let up in
the final minutes and did not try to score a goal. The great thing
about this was that the winning team never let on that they were not
trying. That's the CANADIAN SPIRIT! It reminded me of our jun-
ior team in the WORLD TOURNAMENT *hen they played the
JAPANESE. They didn't run up the score like the SWEDES did
and we won 8 to 1. And the SWEDES? They can be proud of their
20 to one victory. Speaking of the JAPANESE, imagine them beat-
ing out the SWISS and NORWAY to get into the "A" round when
they've only taken up hockey a few years ago.
Getting back to the people who "put-down" CANADIAN hockey
and point to the fact that more and more EUROPEAN and AMERI-
CANS are in the game, I say you are right to a point. In 1967, CA-
NADIANS' represented 98% of all NHL rosters. Now that percent-
age is 66%, but.iet'S think abput it. The whole world is now playing
hockey and we still have the monopoly with only a 27 million popu-
lation. Furthermore, look at the stars in the league who are CANA-
DIANS'. WAYNE, MARIO, BORQUE, COFFEY, ROY, YZER-
MAN and others. CANADA is still the best... make no mistake
about it!
Here's a little gem for your morning laugh. It's from a major,tlsily
newspaper in NEW YORK CITY and reported by tlporis wilt(
(
FRANK;BROWN. 11e wrotc "that was a:wbesn tight; ahoy malty
tried -Fe -hurt each other' No kidding Frank!
Boy, are we and the rest of CANADA saps or what! Listen to this
one: DOW OF CANADA had a news conference to announce a 9.1
million investment into a QUEBEC plant that meant 50 new jobs
for Quebecours. What they failed to say
at the. news conference was that ON-
TARIO will lose 50 jobs because they
are going to close the plant in Rich-
mond Hill. I guess it was just a coinci-
dence that Ontario was against a federal
bill called C-91 that would increase pat-
ent protection for brand name compa-
nies and QUEBEC for it all the way.
Hence QUEBEC gets the jobs and all
the dough and ONTARIO loses out
again. What else is new? Oh by the
way; did 1 fail to tell you the name of the company spokesperson?
His name is Jean Paul Marson You gotta give'em (Quebec) credit,
they take care of their own.
