Brother Bob's bingo set for
end of February: Cookies needed

ZURICH - Be sure to mark the
calendar on February 28 for the
Brother Bob Mittleholtz Bingo at
the Zurich Community Centre from
2 to 4 p.m. This is an annual parish
fundraising event for Brother Bob's
work in India. It is sponsored by
the Si Boniface C.W.L and the
Knights of Columbus. Ladies are
asked to bring cookies for the lunch
afterward.
The St. Boniface C.W.L. ladies
are reminded that their next meet-
ing will be held February 16 at 7
p.m. at the Blue Water Rest Home
in the form of a birthday party.
Meetings
The "World Day of Prayer" will
take place March 5 at 2 p.m. at the
Zurich United Church. This is a
non -denominational prayer service
and everyone is invited and encour-
aged to attend.
The Mother's Time group will
meet tonight (February 10) at 9
a.m. until 11:15 a.m. at Si Peter's
Church hall. A guest speaker will
discuss massage therapy. The cost
is S3 per person.
St. Boniface School
The St. Boniface P.T.A. meeting
was held last Tuesday in the school
gymnasium with a good attendance
reported. Sister Susan opened the
meeting with a prayer and Jim De-
nomme, president, chaired the
meeting following speeches pre-
sented by seven intermediate stu-
dents. Teachers judged the speech-
es and awarded the following
placements: Kristine Miller, first;
Sarah Vermunt, second; and Aimee
Hoffman, third. The students will
compete in Mt. Carmel and then at
the Legion in Hensall. Congratula-
tions also to the school's junior
public speaking winners: Chantelle
Gelinas, Steve Dawe and Melissa
Welsh.
In the business portion of the
meeting, it was decided to look into
the cost of buying the front curtains
'for the stage in the gymnasium to
match the back curtains purchased
last year by the P.T.A.
The minutes of the last meeting
were read by Charlene Finkbeiner
and Elaine Beauchamp gave the fi-
nancial report. The group present
decided to have a "Fun Fair" as a
fundraising project which will be
under the direction of Theresa Van
Raay.
A babysitting course for Grade 8
students is being considered and
leaders are required. Anyone inter-
ested in asked to contact Jim or Mr.
Kraftcheck, principal.
It was reported that the student
council used their "hot-dog day"
profits to hire a magician (Dicky
Dean) who entertained,all the stu-
dents last Wednesday.
Jim is looking into having a
P.T.A. skating party for the parish
whenever the ice is available.
Personal
Lou and Delores Schilbe recently
returned home after spending a re-
laxing two weeks in Mexico.
Lee and Rose Regier and her sis-
ter, Theresa Stark, spent last week-
end in Windsor visiting with rela-
tives.
• Mozart and Julie Gelinas Jr.,
along with her mother, Nora Corri-
veau of the Spruce Villa Apart-
ments, spent the weekend in Lon-
don attending the wedding of
Dennis Milne and Lori Patterson at
St. Andrew's Church. The groom is
the son of Pete and Edna Milne of
Komoka. Other relatives attending
the wedding were Peter and There-
sa Bedard of Hensall.
Eugene and Shirley O'Brien,
along with their grand -daughter,
Amanda Regier and friend Bill Ta-
man'of Clinton, travelled to McAl-
len, Texas to visit their son Rick
and Cindie O'Brien and their two
daughters. While on their two-
week vacation, they also went to
Mexico and stopped at various
places such as Nashville.
Father Hayes returned home
sporting a tan from a two-week hol-
iday in the sunny south. Thanks to
the priest who filled in while he
was away.
Jon Lucas Patrick Dietrich, son
of Jim and Denise, was baptized on
February 7 at Si Boniface Church
by Fatter Peter Hayes. His godpar-
ents are Kevin Dietrich, Zurich and
Nicole Jeffrey, London.
Best wishes for a speedy recov-
ery are extended to Maria Kenda
who is a -patient at Victoria Hospi-
tal; and to Audrey McIntosh in
South Huron Hospital. Exeter.
Happy birthday wishes go out to
Lou Schilbe, February 4; Meghan
Gingerich, Herb Klopp and Clayton
Neilands, February 7; and Donna
Knopp who recently celebrated a
birthday.
A birthday dinner was held at the
home of Frieda Keller, Dashwood,
last Wednesday in honour of Luella
Willert of Zurich, with several
friends attending. '
Camping
A bright, sunny—but cold—
weekend enabled 13 cubs and four
leaders to enjoy a camping trip on
the Blue Water. They stayed at the
St. Peter's parish hall over -night in
their sleeping bags. The boys went
hiking back to the lake and did var-
ious crafts and outdoor activities.

Welcome to • town, Reverend
Gani Ja aro, his wife and family
• who moved into their newly built
home on Centre Street over the
weekend. He is the new minister of
the United Church.
Everyone is invited to hear Father
Frank Murphy, Delhi, speak of his
recent mission work in Peru at Mt.
Carmel School gymnasium of Feb-
ruary 17. The evening begins with
a pot -luck dinner at 7 p.m. with the
speaker at 8 p.m.
Fundraising
Members of the Zurich and Area
Figure Skating Club are selling
chocolate -covered almonds as a
fundraising activity.'
Volleyball
A good time was had by all those
who participated in the volleyball
tournament on Saturday at the are-
na and Si Boniface gymnasium.
The winning team of the one -day
event was Rose Durand'sgroup
from London. Dan : Mass' team
from Zurich was the runner-up.
The next tournament will be held
on the February 20-21 weekend.
Up -coming events
The Grand Bend Winter Carnival
parade begins at 11:30 a.m. on Sat-
urday.
A Valentine Dance will be held
at the Legion in the evening. Mu-
sic begins at 9 p.m. with Mozart's
Melody Makers from Zurich.
Ladies Auxiliary
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Rest
Home held their last meeting Feb-
ruary 2 with a good tum -out. The
evening commenced with a musical
program, followed by lunch. Presi-
dent Mary Ellen Gingerich chaired
the meeting. Minutes of the last
meeting and roll call were given by
secretary, Marlene Gingerich. The
treasurer's report was given by Ce-
celia Farwell.
The quilt is presently set up in the
home of Mary Ellen in preparation
of next years Bean Festival. Four
ladies were asked to help serve
cake and ice-cream at the open
house, on February 14. the Rest
Home in honour of Everett Haist
who is celebrating his 100th birth-
day.
The next meeting will be held
March 2 at 7 p.m.
Dashwood WI
hold Tweedsmuir meeting
DASHWOOD - The Dashwood Women's Institute held their monthly
meeting Tuesday, February 2 with 16 members present.
It was the Tweedsmuir Meeting and opened with a display of Current
Event pictures and the Tweedsmuir books were on display. The roll call
was answered by an ancestral talent being used by one of your children,
and was answered by many different vocations.
President Katharine Becker then conducted the business. The highlight
is planning Dashwood Institute's 40th anniversary. Several donations, of
which one was given to Bowl-A-Thon at which the W.I. will be represent-
ed by one member Sherry Edwards.
A reading "A Farmer's Last Will and Testament" by Katharine Becker
after which euchre was enjoyed with prizes - high, Gloria Bierling, Ruth
Stine; lone hands, Martha Weigand and low Alice Tieman. A delicious
lunch and fellowship followed.

EXETER - Amid cupids and
hearts, unit leader Grace Drum-
mond welcomed 33 ladies to the
February Exeter U.C.W. meeting
with an appropriate reading entitled
"Why I Love You".
The purpose was repeated and
then Beuy Clarke introduced Josh
Watson who spoke about the "Toc
Alpha Conference" that he and 11
other teens from our church attend-
ed. Watson related several experi-
ences regarding the various work-
shops and debates that he attended.
He was thanked by Audrey Mac-
Gregor.
During the business the roll call
was answered with a Valentine's
verse and the minutes of the last
meeting were read and adopted. An
invitation to Clinton's U.C.W. quilt
show was read and Helen Coates
reminded everyone of the U.C.W.
conference in Sarnia March 29 and
30. World Day of Prayer is to- be
held in the Exeter United Church on
March5at2p.m.
Devotions were opened by Beuy
Clarke with a poem "Love and
Friendship" The scripture was read
by Dorothy Taylor followed by sev-
eral readings pertaining to the
theme of Love. In closing everyone
joined in a minute's silence for for-
mer member, Dorothy Insley who
passed away recently.
Bev Prout's group served a deli-
cious lunch and a cup of tea. '
