Hoogenboom pleNNlibd the pub-
lic works eommitteellIf tut at Mon-
day evening's council'1 t11ng, a re-
port that included a
recommendation that Exeter con-
duct another traffic count at the in-
tersection of Victoria and Main
Streets.
"Didn't sre-4oKt-W* Ic-count on
Main Street last year'? And it didn't
give us what we vhanted?" queried
mayor Bruce Shaw, referring to the
traffic study that failed W convince
the Ministry of Transponation that
a traffic light was needed at that in-
tersection, nor at Main and Well-
ington Streets.
"We're going to go up and down
the streets a few more times," joked
Hoogenboont.
CotlncillorRobert Drnrmnoltdex-
plained that with the new Royal
Bank building "now in full swing"
the traffic at that intersection may
-have increased enough to quatify it
for a traffic light in the ministry's
eyes. Drummond said the traffic
count was Short by only a few cars
Mit day.
Clerk Liz ,Bell noted that last
year's traffic count at the two inter-
sections cost about 53,000, to
St. Poster's Church on Highway 4 is in the process of being
demolished. Work continues as the 120 -year-old church is I
coming down.

Wide said the Goderich cross-
ing guard takes a pylon with her
across the road to block ore lane bf
traffic while standi*g ward in the
other; an effective setstlein be said
Exeter should try 'bye entering
into any further expense at that in-
tersection.
"I`think it would be wtse to give
it some consideration before we go
spending money, which we might
have trouble finding given the bud-
get situation this year," said Miek-
Ie. -
"it [pylon) seems to work fin
Goderichi and 1 don't know why it
wouldn't work here."
Hoogenboom told council that
the problems of the Victoria inter-
section were obviously not solved
with the installation of the cross-
walk and "don't seem to go away".
Hoogenboom insisted a full traffic
light would eliminate 90 percent of
the problems.
"It would eliminate 'the crossing
guard and eliminate the possibility
of someone getting seriously hurt
there," said Hoogenboom, pointing
out that the guard complains that
cars still ignore the crosswalk's
'flashing lights and go through
when children are crossing Main
Street.
Mickle insisted that the traffic
survey be deferred until the pylon
method was tried.
"At least give it a shot I don't see
spending $3,000 when we can ac-
complish the same thing for a few
dollars," said Mickle, to which
council agreed.
Also contained in the public
works committee is statement that
works superintendent Glenn Kelis
is still seeking more information
about the possible installation of an
advanced green light at the inter-
section of Sanders and Main
Streets.
