February is designated as Heart
and Stroke month. Every year at
this time 1 think of the words of au-
thor Isaac Asimov. "Zile human
heart beats constantly at a rate of
60 to 80 times a minutes, or a trifle
faster than one beat per second,
through a long life that may last
over a century. In a century of fruit-
ful labour it will beat some four bil-
lion times and pump 600.000 tons
of blood. The work done by the
heart each minute is equivalent to
the lifting of 70 pounds a foot off

Huron Centennial School had
two guest speakers who travel with
the S.C.A.W. program (Sleeping
Children Around the World) show
a slide presentation on S.C.A.W.
They demonstrated a bed kit which
consists of up to 25 items, depend-
ing on local needs. Each bed kit
costs 528.
The school goal was to donate 20
bed kits but they have raised over
51,000 to date.
This is an organization that pro-
vides bed kits to needy children in
underdeveloped and developing
countries.
Grade eight children from Huron
Centennial will be selling cheese
once again to raise money for their
Grade eight trip.
