"MORE ORE!!"
RED FISHER, the Sports Editor at the MONTREAL GA-
ZETTE, who has been covering hockey for 40 years has seen them
all come and go, answered when he was asked "who's the best he's
ever seen? FISHER replied "BOBBY ORR!, no question." "No-
body could pull you outta your seat like Bobby, when he would
wind -it -up from behind his net." Fisher continued "It was like he had
four gears, fast, faster, fastesttnd overdrive and nobody could touch
him."
I have tell you.a.story about when L was in the minors playing for
the ROCHESTER AMERICANS of the A.H.L I was considered
a confirmed "minor leaguer". I was big, slow but tough in front of ,
the net and at that time BOBBY was changing the way defensemen
played and guys like me were on their way out. I resented him for it.
I felt that way until one day when the ROCHESTER AMERI-
CANS were in BOSTON to play the A.H.L.'s BOSTON BRAVES.
When we went to the rink for our morning skate, the BOSTON
BRUINS were practicing. It was my fust glimpse of ORR and I was
stunned! I had been to every NHL camp fora "cup of coffee" and
had seen them all... but nothing like this! I couldn't take my eyes off
him as everything looked so effortless. It must have been like the
time a grizzed old horse trainer fist laid eyes on Secretarial,
I know a lot of people say "What a shame. Bobby was cut-down
in his_ prjme_at 2g, and -that's when a- defenseman comes into his
own." But I look at it another way. Bobby went out at the very top of
his game. In 1975 when I coached him, he had the great year of 46
• goals and 87 assists to win the HART. he also won the M.V.P. of
the 76 Canada Cup. He was like a rocket and if you goua go, it's bet-
ter to go out "flying" and when everybody remembers you, they will
remember you at your best opposed to someone "playing out the
string". As the hockey players say "you're only as good as your last
shift". People remember Bobby's last shift for CANADA in the
CANADA CUP when he accepted the
Trophy for Most Valuable. WHAT A
WAY TO GO! So you sec, it wasn't so
bad an ending afterall.
"WHO'S THE BEST EVER?" I'll
let,Hall of Fanner G.M. SERGE SAV -
ARD sum it up. Here's what SERGE
said.
'Ahem arc players, there are stars
and there arc Superstars and then
there's BOBBY ORR. It's too bad they
didn't have a higher league for him to
play in."

Generals
now
face Forest *4
"We eartietgtltithem,
that's for sure"
By Fred Groves
T -A staff
EXETER - Now it becomes a
waiting game.
After eliminating Lambeth
ANAF in three straight games, the
Exeter RSD Generals will now
wait to see when they meet Forest
in the secnnd round of .the Ontario
Minor ' n midget
'CC' playoffs.
"This series (with Lambeth)
didn't have to be done until the end
of the month. I don't know what's
next," said Exeter coach Scott Bo-
gart.
The Generals have played Forest
twice during the regular Shamrock
League schedule and beat them 10-
0 and 13-0. But that doesn't insure
easy going for Exeter.
"We can't let up on them that's
for slue," said Bogart. "Unless they
got some players back from some-
where, you never know."
Wednesday night at the Spl!4
Huron Recreation Centre a
crowd watched as the Generals, 416 --
fending OMHA 'CC' champions,
jumped into a quick lead just 52
seconds into the garnc against
Lambeth and led 4-2 after two peri-
ods.
Gavin Snell batkllaMled a re-
bound to make it 1-0 as Jamie
Ralph and Derek Campbell assist-
ed. But Lambeth's Luke Laye
caught Exeter goalie Darren Kints
on his back and it was 1=1 after one
period.
In the opening period, Generals'
defenseman Brian Gardner dished
out a big hit on Mlgk Lang at the
_Exeter blueline.
Just 2:45 into the middle frame,
the visitors tied it up when gay
Baker scared but that would be the
last goal for Lambeth.
Exeter captain Steve Farquhar
lugged the puck in` -)tad -field 1t to
Snell who trailed the play }:and
made the score 2-2. Lambeth's Jon
Poole hit the crossbar and right. af-
ter that clang, Gardner netted what
proved to be the winner with a shot
over Mike Potruffs shoulder.
In the previous two games,
Lambeth had managed to g keep
Snell and Farquhar off the gcorc -
shect but on Wednesday the duo
combined for five points.
It only took 21 seeondg After
Gardner's goal to give the hosts a
comfortable two -goal cushion. Far-
quhar barrelled down the left side,
waited until the last minute ,and
ashen got it ortiOgall for his third
the night.
"It was a total momentum swing
there," said Bogart. .
With only 11 seconds left in the
second period, Gardner was given a
five -made penalty and ejected for
checking-from-behitxd. That set up
a big puvitogilay ior i,,s13beth but it
