The win, the second in as many nights for Exeter, gives the locals a very commanding lead in the best - of -five series. Game Three goes tonight at the South Huron Recreation Centre at 9 p.m. and a win would give the locals a sweep of the series. In the second period of Wednesday's game, Campbell, a second -year midget, outraced a Lambeth defenseman for the puck, shoved it over to Rob Kobayashi who passed it to Mark Glavin for the third Exeter goal on the night. "It's a different team from last year," said Exeter coach Scott Bogart of the de- fending OMHA champion Generals. "Last year they were grinders, this year we have some raw speed." All night long, the Generals seemed to be in better :condition than Lambeth as they outhustled their op- , ponents to many loose pucks. The game's scoring began when Lambeth's Steve Blokker deflected a shot past Exeter's Dave Wilcox just 1:14 into the game. But that would be the only puck to get past Wilcox all night. "That's what you need for the playoffs, both those guys are hungry," said Bogart of Wilcox and Darren Kints who had a shutout in Tuesday night's game. Campbell teamed with Jamie Rolph and Kobaya- shi to tie the score and it was 1-1 at the end of the first 15 minute period. Less than a minute into the second period, the Generals scored twice and held a commanding 3-1 lead. It was Campbell getting his second of the night, again from Rolph and Kobayashi and then it was Glavin who gave the hosts a two -goal cushion. Later m the second, Derek Beckett took a pass from Glavin and put a nice move on the defenseman before beating Lambeth goalie Chris Doxtator. Although there was no scoring in the third period, there were a lot of penalties. The Generals had to play short for a while but their penalty - killing unit came up big. "We're just picking up their speedy guys. We're trying a few different things," said Bogart. Q `y Exeter blueliners Trevor Taylor and ems_ Brian Gardner both had outstanding games, dishing out several hard hits. Bogart said this year's Lambeth team doesn't seem as tough as the one Exeter faced in last year's playoffs. Exeter 5, Lambeth 0 Last Tuesday night in Lambeth, Exeter goalie Darren Kints had the shutout and five different players scored. Glavin and Beckett made it 2-0 after the first peri- od as Gardner, Ben Armstrong and Rolph had the assists. It was 4-0 after two periods on goals by Campbell and Rolph as Matt Goldbolt and Gardner with his second assist of the game, helped set up the goals. Campbell and Godbolt each collected another point in the third, this one coming after they set up Greg Darlymple. ere Generals' centre Derek Campbell, left; battled at the facedff circle against Lambeth during Wednesday night's midget playoff game. Campbell had two goals and leads the team with three tallies in post -season play. Honking DePrest nets winner over Hawks By Fred Groves T -A staff EXETER - Greg DePrest scored with 15 seconds left here Friday night to give the visiting Lucan Irish a slim 4-3 win over the Exeter Hawks. With the game tied 3-3 and look- ing as though the rivals would head into overtime for the second time in as many games,. DePrest went down the ice and while shooting from his knees, put -the-puck into the top corner past Clint McCann. Following a busy week, the Irish increased their OHA Junior Devel- opment west division record to 25- 2-2 while the Hawks remain in a battle for third place. "I don't think we played well at all," said Irish coach Ken Needham whose team led 1-0 after the first period and 3-2 after 40 minutes. Lucan scored first, midway through the opening frame when Kevin Leitch let go with a shot which hit the back boards and then went off of Clint McCann's skate. Jason Reidhead made it 2-0 just 4:27 into the second period but Dan Ryan pulled the Hawks to within a goal. John O'Hara made a nice rush and beat Brent Lewis with a shorthanded tally to tie it. Steve Snider one -timed it to give the visitors the lead but it was tied up in the third when O'Hara got his second of the night. Ra The Hawks came close to scoring in the third and it looked as though O'Hara had his third but the whistle was blown before the puck entered the net. jrish 8. Brydges goalie Mike Pandur was given a four -minute butt - ending penalty when he got his stick into Leitch in the second peri- od. Bodies hitting the lee was not an unfamiliar sight during Fri-, day's garde OHA Junior Development League game between the host kxeter Hawks and the Lucan Irish. In the third, Lucan forward Brian :Schuyler rushed to the net but after dieing hauled down by Greg Wes - felt the brunt of Pandur's stick. Schuyler and Weston exchanged punches and were given four min- utes each in the box. Later, Bull- dogs' Brad Carroll ripped Andy Ross' helmet off and pounded on Ross who dropped to the ice. They were both given game miscon- ducts. "He (Ross) did what he was sup- posed to do. You have to rely on the guy who is refrng," said Need- ham. The score was tied 3-3 after the first period but the hosts exploded in the second for five big goals. jiawks 13.
