"We played really well last night
(against Dunnville). We weren't
keyed up for this game after the
important win," said Exeter coach
Dave Revington.
"When your concentration level
isn't where it should be, you don't
pass as well. We weren't here for
the first half of the game," he add-
ed.
Creemore goalie Quinn Clancy
was outstanding in the first 20 min-
utes as .he , stopped Greg Snyder a
couple of times and with 39 sec-
onds left in the period, managed to
get hold of the puck as Jeff Shipley
and Kevin McArter tried to stuff it
in.
"He's a good goalie, he stopped a
lot of rubber. We missed a few we
should have had," said Exeter for-
ward Ron Goodhand who had two
goals against the Chiefs.
Also scoring for the winners were
Richard Hawkins, Scott .Pfaff and
Kevin McArter. Defenseman Ron
Elliott had a good game with a
couple of assists.
Comparing the two big weekend
games, Goodhand said the Mudcats
and the Chiefs did have something
in common.
"They'll both put you to sleep.
With their style of play). They like
4k play tough in their own rink," he
Added.

Sometimes reputation
Is enough to win
When I got off the
phone with Joe
Kaak last Monday, I
kind offelt sorry for
him.
The Shipka native, who is
destined to be one of Cana-
da's premier boxers if he
keeps at it, seems to be fight-
ing more than just his oppo-
nents.

Kaak, who narrowly milsed beating Calgary's Dale Brown
for the light heavy-weigiii title, was hinting the boxing offi-
cials might have already bad Brown penciled in as the winner
before the fight began.
Not to get Kaak in any hot water here with the officials, but
he's probably right.
Sports has a tendency to do one thing automatically; that is
favour the one with the most experience.
In this case, Brown, the captain of the intemational team
whhth was heading to Sweden for a toumament, has 10 years
more experience than Kaak. He's also had 50 international
fights.
Brown has proven he Gran go up against others from around
the world, that's why he is rated third on this planet. But even
with all that going for him, Kaak gave Brown a real run for
the money, or in this case, airplane ticket to Sweden.
In their recent title fight in Winnipeg, neither boxer landed
a point in the first round, boring you may say, but it appeared
as though the two were just feeling each other out.
Round Two had Brown winning by a point and the third
and final round, again it's even, this lime two points each. Re-
sult, Brown wins, goes to Swedt>tiiwhile Kaak goes back to
Shipka and gets ready to try again next time.
But the results here are more devastating then losing the Ca-
nadian title, although that's a pretty big blow to handle.
Kaak now has to start from the bottom, regain the provin-
cial title and begin the climb to go after Brown and the title
all over again. Remember, this is amateur boxing.
After the fight in Calgary, Kaak found out the officials had
already bought Brown's plane ticket. In other words, thanks
Kaak for coming out and giving our boy a few rounds to get
ready for Sweden.
I don't like that way of dealing with sports.
But it happens all the time, not only in boxing but track and
field is another example of picking stars ahead of time to go
to the big meet.
Wayne Gretzky of the Los Angeles Kings has always been
a member of the National Hockey League all-star game, and
thanks to some kind-hearted souls, he will be again this year.
It's the same principle, going on reputation.
Now don't get me wrong, if healthy, the Great One is still
one of the best offensive weapons in the game of hockey. But
that's just it, he's not healthy.
He should have never retumedrto hockey, but with the other
two hockey headliners, Mario Lemieux and Eric Lindros on
the shelf, Gretzky is obligated to keep the superstar shining.
Gretzky was named to the all-star team over a few other de-
-serving rt ,became of his name ond his past teputation, I
think that's wrong.
Plans are underway for the wann mom at the South Huron
Recreation Centre. Although there has been a lot of talk to
where it's going to go in the arena and when construction is
going to begin, I think even before the pmject starts, all those
involved should be congratulated.
From the gentkamett who are going to provide the labour to
those who drew up the plans, this is truly a community effort.
The warm room is going to be built where the wheelchair
ramped area is. it *Ill give those who want to get out of the
cold, a chance 10 see the kids play hockey or figure skate,
close up. The rec centre has gone to great lenghts to comfort
spectators lately, especially with the addition of the new heat-
ers above the stands.
