Continued from page 10
The Mohawks led 2-0 after 20
minutes as Scherer -got his second
of be night and 28th of the season.
But throughout she -game,.the Vics
kept the pressure'on.
"We can't behappy we tiedsim-
ply because they're .the top seam.
That's not the rightapproach," said
Exeter coach Dave Revington.
Defenseman Jeff Warren who
played a strong game back on the
.blueline, agreed and said he would
have preferred a win.
"I look at it like we blew the win.
I'm not happy with a tie at all; said
Warren.
The Vics were slapped with a
bench minor late in the first period
is=and early in the next frame, - Tim
:.Shields lugged the puck in.andsgot
it to linemate Ron Goodhand who
scored his fust of the year.
Quick goal: It only took 20 sec-
.. ends for the hosts to go up 4-0
when defenseman Ron Elliott
drilled one from the point and Greg
Snyder .re -directed it
The : second period saw :Greg
McEachern score twice to pull the
Vics to within a couple but it was 5-
2 when Dale Gibbon dished out a
big hit along the boards and got it
over to Kevin McArter who scored
at 1:19 of the third.
It was then Petrolia's turn to score
a couple of quick ones as Don
Dickson and Mark Hillier pulled
the Vics to within one.
With 8:43 left in the game, Hillier
was given a five minute high stick-
ing penalty and ejected from the
game after Scherer was sent to the
dressing room and eventually the
hospital with a bad cut under his
left eye which took several stitches
to close.
That set up 'a Mohawks power-
play for five minutes but they could
not connect.
"We had the lead going into the
third period but we just coughed it
up," said Revington. "We had an
outstanding opportunity to win it
with a powerplay situation."
Dave Miller cruised into the slot
and let go with a wrist shot which
tied the _game and sent it into the,
five-minute sudden victory over-
time •where the :game remained
deadlocked.
"Basically we're just out of shape,
that's what it comes down to," said
Warren. "They came pretty hard in
ahe:last 20 minutes that's for sure."
Hillier was not the only Petrolia
.player ejected *cm- the game as
Troy Fleming was kicked ;;out. by
referee Dave Whaley in thaveCoud
period. Fleming was given a, high
sticking penalty and • went to .-.the
dressing room after he complained.
The Mohawks are winless.in their.
last .three games but .wilt try to get
back on attack when they, kost the
Ayliner Hornets on Sunday at 7:30
p.m.
"We haven't played well the last
several starts. When we get 41
shots (against Petrolia) in your own
rink, you expect to win," said Rev-
ington.
Mohawks moments:...The lige of
Goodhand, Shields and Rob King-
shott looked very good together on
