A letter to council from the department objects to the new lot sizes, particularly one creat- ed on Victoria Street on the grounds that they do not allow enough side lot space to erect an emergency ladder. Chief Gary Middleton said that fire ladders must not ex- ceed an angle of 70-75 degrees, often not possible on undersize lots. "Has this been dealt with at planning?" asked deputy -reeve Losiy Fuller, chairing the meet- ing in the absence of mayor Bruce Shaw and reeve Bill Mickle. "We dealt with it and had no problem with it," replied coun- cillor Ben Hoogenboom. Town administrator Rick Hun- dey said the chief`s was a valid concern, but could possibly be applied to many other lots in town which have similar side - lots. "We can't stop severing proper- ties within the town simply be- cause of this concern. It would concern all properties with this style of home built on them," said Hoogenboom. Councillor Bob Spears said the planning board was comfortable that bylaw requirements were be- ing met. "We felt most of the properties in town could be served well by the fire departments,' said Spears, noting that other urban centres utilizing zero lot lines might have more problems with emergency access. "Nothing was changed in the side lot. It's identical to any other lot in town," confirmed Hundey. TheZurich lions` -Club hosted their annual Christmas Party at the -Zurich Arena Saturday afternoon. 'Letter to Editor Does board represent homeowners? To the Editor; It may be of interest to your readers that the Directors of the Southoctt Pines Park Association have been approached by various sesidents_overthe past months ask- ing the association to state a posi- tion relating to the possibility of a gambling casino in the Grand Bend area. The directors stated that the as- sociation would not take a position nor would it speak on behalf of any group involved in this issue. They did agree that if a consensus was developed to show the_wishes of.the residents of Southcou Pines, they would make the opinions available to all interested parties. In the Association Newsletter sent -to members in October 1992, a questionnaire was enclosed that stated the Association's attempt to determine the will of its residents. This was acC0m- plished by structuring the11 questions to: - preaatt the objec- tives outlined m the By-laws of the Southcott Pines Park Association, namely "To ad- vance and promote the cultural, ecology, educalionaL.social and all other like interests, privacy, reason- able quiet enjoyment and security of the members." - Present a question: "Do you feel that a casino. in our area will have a positive or negative .influence on our objective?" As of November .30, 1992, 135 replies were received to the 521 questionnaires sent to property owners. This represent a 25.9 per - cern response and no significant change is anticipated. However it is worthy of note that this reflects a much greater interest than most is- sues on which opinions are solicit- ed. Response indicated:Positive - 14 (10.3%), negative - 120 (89.7 per- cent). This survey does not reflect ei- ther the opinion or position of the Board of Directors of Southcou Pines Park Association. However it does indicate the consensus of those property owners that re- sponded to the questionnaire. Re- sults of the questionnaire with re- lating statistics was sent to Council of Grand Bend Village, Council of Bosanquct Township and Lambton M.P.P. Ellen MacKinnon. EXETER - While many of the or- ganizations using the South Huron Recreation Centre resort to fund- raising to help make ends meet, even the board of the centre itself is considering resorting to fundraising events - next year to help support their finances. The recreation centre board is planning to follow, town council's directive to bring in a no -increase budget for 1993, but they already expect utility and wage increases alone to be up about S9,0(X) over 1992. NOM 1NO ?t Town losing grant for Post Qffice EXETER ,- The federal gover- ment's mini -budget will be taking s small bite out of the town's financ- es, council learned Monday eve- ning. Exeter will be losing its "grant in lieu of taxes" front theilederal gov- ernment for the only federal build- ing on town property. Clerk Liz Bell told council the Post Office is the only federal building in town and is consequent- ly the only property '.Exeter will lose the grant on - about $6,000 a year since the mini -budget an- nounced the elimination of the grants. • Bell noted other municipalities with many larger federally -owned buildings would be harder hit. The 'grant has been the govern- ment's way of compensating mu- nicipalities for the revenue lost on taxes not paid for federal buildings. Bell said there is no way the town can recoup that lost grant since fed- eral and provincial. buildings are. exempt from property taxes -under legislation. ti R :. ti ejoice! tl g for behold. 1 bring you good t idi ngs o f grrat —Luk, ,i. -Ill ivy. g g Andrew and Pearl Kuepfer g and our dedicated volunteers Blessings I Unlimited li 19 Main St. W., Zurich Mai the hob' family be a guiding example to you and yours this Christmas time.
