Back in year 1 is where Jesus
was born. It was a happy day in
Bethlehem. Angels sang the First
Noel. Shepherds and Wisemen
came to worship him. "What is his
name?" one of the Wisemen said.
"Jesus', Mary answered. Another
group of angels came and sang
Away in a manger. Thirty-three
years later Jesus was crucified. He
was nailed to a cross. There was a
piece of paper that said R.I.P.
which meant Rest in Peace. Jesus
did not stay on the cross. He was
not on the cross long. After he was
put in a cave. A friend named
Mary came to -the cave and saw Je-
sus was gone. She was extremely
sad!!
Suddenly she heard a voice. The
voice said. "Don't cry Mary."
Mary turned around. The man said
"1 am Jesus". Mary was so happy
she stared to cry. Jesus stayed for-
ty days in the town. After the forti-
eth day Jesus said, "1 have to go
back to my home in Heaven." Je-
sus said his last good-bye to his
friends! Jesus went back to his
home in Heaven

Silent Night
It was Christmas five 1818 at Oberndorf, a vil-
lage in the Austrian mountains. As they were
preparing music for the Christmas services of Si.
Nicholas' Church,. he church organ broke down.
It would not be.availabk Christmas Day_
Josef .Mohr, lhe..assistant pastor, bad an old
guitar.and glanced hopefully at the insuument.
An inspiration came to him. He sat down at his
desk and wrote. The words were beautiful and
heartwarming.
A short time later, Flans Gruber, the church or-
ganist, hastened to answer a knock at his door
There stood Josef Mohr, a bright light in his eyes
and a piece of paper in his hands.
"I have here a song that I have written." And
Mohr explained. "A Christmas song. Could you
compose a sui$Able.aair, for it? If you could arrange
u for two solo voices, a chorus, and a guitar, we
could use it at the church tomurrow."
-Franz timber, clinching at straws, said he'd -try.
He read.the vorses.and, as he read, his heart
swelled .with joy. Ar.ance he went to his spanetaand
began to aisatrch for the chords he desired. maay 1t¢artstanebing attempts. he completed a
beautiful melody.
Rant Gruber took the written score to Josef
Mohr, who played it on his guitar.. in the silence
that followed the final note, the two.simply stared
at each other, awed but still unaware that they had
created what would become one of the niost loved
of all Christmas carols. The Song was Silent Nighr.
