Christmas carols at Thames Road Church service THAMES ROAD - The fourth Sunday of Advent, Christmas Sun- day, church service, the congrega- non sang some Christmas carols before the service commenced. David Vanderbussche and his fa- ther Rick Vandenbussche lit the first three candles for hope, peace, and joy. The fourth candle was ht for love. Marilyn Vandenbussche read some verses. The responsive reading Psalm 97 "The Righteous Ruler" was read. The choirs sang two Christmas anthems accompanied by the or- ganist Erin Krattcheck. The children's hymn "While Shepherds Watched their Flocks by Night". Rev. Jim Allsop told the childrens story "Jesus is Our Christmas'Present". The Scripture was read from Isaiah 9: 2-7 and the Gospel of Luke '? : 1-20. The minister's ser- mon was entitled "God Becomes Human Flesh'. The Sunday School members and their teachers came up to the front of the church and sang Away In a Manger and We Wish You a Merry Christmas accompanied by Marilyn Vandenbusslchc. Life and Work of the Congrega- tion Christmas Eve Service and Communion service will be held at Thames Road Church (note the change of place due to breakdown of furnace at Elimville). The Thames Road Nominating Committee is seeking threes addi- tional members for the board of stewards, and one member for Ses- sion for 1993. To continue opera- tion of the Church, there has to be members on the boards, so please try and co-operate if you are asked. Next Sunday December 27 there will be a joint service at Thames Road at 11:15 a.m. Personals Elliott and Audry McRoberts of Exeter. Arnold and Marion Cann were Wednesday supper guests with Bill and Rhoda Rohde. Cleve and Eleanor of Grand Bend, Toni and Liz Bianci and Brooke, Larry and Melissa Dawson, Jamie and Brendan near Aylmer, Brent and Sharen Dawson were Saturday guests with Murray and Beatrice Dawson. Dorothy Heard of SL Marys, Steve and Carolyn Knight, Lindsay and Miranda of Hensall were Sun- day supper guests with Hilda Kel- lett. Barbara Miller of Toronto is spending the holidays at her home here. Normand Lauzon of Timmins is holidaying with his wife Lori Lynn acid daughters Katrina and Kerring- ton at the home of Jack and Feme Stewart of Exeter. Many people called at the Hop- per -Hockey Funeral Home in Exeter December Parkview Month of busy at LUCAN - The activities around Lucan Lions Parkview Place started off early in December. On the fourth, we had a discussion on how to handle stress at Chnstmas with two fourth year students from the University of Western Ontario On the evening of December 13 the Lucan Lions Club had a wine and cheese party for the residents. Entertainment was a group of girls called "Ain't Misbehaven" from Medway. The girls had a varied program and we certainly enjoyed them. The Lions provided a tasty variety of goodies and coffee which was greatly appreciated. On December 14 the seniors had our annual Christmas dinner ca- tered to by Mary Dykeman and her helpers. Mike O'Shea entertained us afterward with Diane leading the singing of Christmas carols and Mike ably accompanying on piano. Also during the evening a group of girls led by Mrs. McDonald from the United Church sang carols. The evening finished by having an ex- change of gifts handed from the tree by "Santa" Roy Zinn. The Lucan Beavers visited with carols on the evening of the 12th. Jackie Marten brought the Junior choir from the Anglican church on the afternoon of the 18th which all enjoyed. In the new year of '93 Parkview are having a new executive of the Parkview Group and are wished success in their efforts in the com- ing year. Parkview welcomes Ed Arm- strong and Gertic Svoplys home from the hospital and hope they continue to enjoy good health. On Friday morning's progressive crib is being held in the common room. This is available to anyone in the community. Meeting of Centralia Tabernacle CENTRAI;.IA - The ladies of Faith Tabernacle enjoyed a very in- spirational and challenging evening on Tuesday, December 8: The pot- luck dinner was delicious and the men did a great job of serving and washing dishes. We appreciate the sacrifice of your lime and hands! Marlene Thornton, our guest so- loist sang "My Soul Desire: and challenged each lady to make that her desire; to be a willing vessel. Our guest speaker, Eunice Kelsey - spoke on "The Wardrobe. yf a Kings Daughter', paralleling what we wear on the outside to what Christ wants us to wear on the in-' side. Gifts were exchanged and everyone revealed the name of their Secret Sister for the past year. Lori Crawford who has hccn our husv and faithful leader this year, then turned the reigns over to our new leader for 1993, Sharon Parker On Sunday evening, December 13, the Sunday Sohcxil performed a musical cantata entitled, ""Arc You Ready for Christmas?'', with 63 cast members. The front o1 the church was completely changed into a humble, lowly stable. Roving reporters from K -I -N -G Christian Network News interviewed chil- dren, teens and a workman from this era and then travelled via satel- lite to Bethlehem to speak with Elizabeth, the cousin of Mar), shepherds, Joseph and Mary her - Centralia by Mary Koov CENTRALIA - The sympathy of the community is extended to Ge- rald and Carl Isaac and family fol- lowing the sudden death of their mother and grandmother Jean Isaac of Exeter. She was the widow of the late Alton Isaac_ and they farmed in this vicinity many years. We would like to thank Steve and Len and staff of Heywoods restau- rant for the lovely free turkey din- ner served to us on Monday, De- cember 14 following our euchre. Here's an easy way to put eye drops in children's eyes: Have the child lie back and close her eyes. Place 1 or 2 drops on the lids where they meet in the hollow at the nasal side of the eyes. The sheep, played by our two and three year olds stayed right along with their shepherds, and the animals played by Grade one and two rested peace- fully around the manger. Angels played by Grades one to three girls, sparkled and glittered in the stable. "Christmas isn't Christmas 'Till It Happens in Your Heart" was sung straight from their hears to finish the cantata. Wednesday night the streets of Huron Park were filled with glow- ing candles, bells ringing, and 46 voices singing the Christmas car- ols. Thanks to the many, man) homes who opened their doors or windows to listen! Our first Women's Ministry meet- ing (WM) gathered around hot ap- ple cider and listened to Christmas poems, shared prayer requests, and atter a short business meeting, went and sang Christmas Carols to Pas- tor Bob. Pastor Bob had taken a bad fall and was laid up for a few days. The ladies sang outside his window and then went to Norma Romph who has just returned home ftiom hospital and sang for her.
