1-IENSALL - The Fnendship Cir-
cle of Hensall United Church
welcomed members of the Thurs-
day afternoon group while we met
informally to make Christmas
placemats for the residents of
Queensway Nursing Home.
During the business Eveyln Elder
explained the "time out" program at
Exeter United Church for young
mothers and the need for helpers
with the children. Anyone who
might help should contact Elder.
Donations were made to the
Hensall United .Church roof fund,
Camp Menesetung Mission and
Services Ethiopian Development
Program of London Conference
United Church and the Huron -
Perth Resources Centre Mitchell.
Helen McLean's devotional in-
cluded a reading "A Dollar Bill at
Christmas", Christmas carols and
Gisele Ireland's Christmas message
"Symbolic Gestures."
A video "Helping Others - Help-
ing Ourselves" was shown.
"Surfin' Santa"
Fnends and families gathered at
Hensall Public School on December
16 for the Christmas Concert.
Santa is dreaming of a warm vaca-
tion. His toyshop falls victim to a
hostile takeover attempt by Grim-
ley's Toys but thanks to Mrs. Claus
and the whole North Pole gang Jin-
gle, Jangle, Holly, Mistletoe and the
others. Santa gets his vacation and
the boys and girls get their Christ-
mas.
once again the students did a
great job of entertaining everyone.

For Christmas and
Winners announced in
Zurich home lights contest

ZURICH - The Zurich Chamber
of Commerce has announced the
winners of the Christmas Light -Up
Contest which they ,sponsored.
Judging, held Friday evening, de-
cided on the home of Gord and
Jeanne Hay as the grand prize win-
ners.
Honourable mentio:i plaques will
also go to the homes of Fred and
Audrey Haberer, Ted and Janet
Soudan', Art and Pauline Miller
and to Jerome and Helene Du-
charme. Judges noted there are
also many more very well decorat-
ed homes in the village this year.
Lions Santa program
Virtually all the kids in town en-
joyed going to see Santa at the are-
na on Saturday afternoon and were
treated to movies, drinks and treat
from the Zurich Lions Club.
Bowling
The Monday Night Ladies Bowl-
ing League had their Christmas par-
ty at the lanes last week. Bowling
resumes January 4.
The Saturday morning youth
bowling team were also treated to a
special program this weekend, in-
cluding pop. donuts, and coffee for
parents who joined in.
Optimist spree
Carmel Sweeney stood in as the
proxy shopper for the winner of the
Optimist Club Christmas Shopping
Spree at the Tender Spot grocery
store Friday evening. The winning
ticket was drawn for an out-of-
town relative of Sadi Klopp, leav-
ing Sweeney to fill in and gather up
three shopping carts full of goods
worth $500.63. Helping push the
carts in the spree was store manag-
er Doug Masse.
Personals
On Sunday December 20 a
Christmas .dinner was held at the
home of Helen Patrick and Colleen
Overholt with over 20 family mem-
bers and friends attending.
Best wishes for a speedy recov-
ery to Pat Groot who is a patient in
the Clinton Hospital and to Mi-
chelle Depaepe who is home from
spending a few days in hospital last
week. Wishes also go to Maria
Kenda who is a patient in Victoria
Hospital in London.
Bill and Lee Thomas of Exeter,
but who have been in Florida since
October are presently spending two
weeks visiting with their daughter
Paula Isidore Laporte and her boys
over the Christmas holidays.
The family of Jerome and Carmel
Sweeney celebrated an early Christ -
Senior diners
meet in Zurich
ZURICH - Zurich senior diners
met Wednesday December 16 with
a good attendance. Tammy Antaya
welcomed all diners and visitors.
The 50/50 draw was won by Gwen
McKeller. A poem "Christmas
Gifts" was given by Gerrie Flei-
chauer.
. The diners enjoyed having Lynn
Nesbiu's trained dog Tara, of Gode-
rich, by performing the Obedience
Course she was taught by her own-
er. Christmas carols were sung
with Jayne Hayter, Dashwood as
pianist.

Birthday wishes go to Laura Geli-
nas on December 24, and to Louis
Willert and Noel Laporte on Christ-
mas Day.
The family of Peter and Theresa
Bedard of Hensall got together at
the Dominion Tavern Sunday for a
Christmas dinner for their children,
and grandchildren.
