EXETER - If anything, the Exet-
er Mohawks proved one thing Sun-
day night: they have to come to
practice and be ready for games.
At the South Huron Recreation
Centre. the hosts lost 6-4 to the
Southwestern Senior 'A' Hockey
League leaders Petrolia Victorians.
Except for a spurt in the third pe-
riod. the Mohawks looked as
though it was a pre -season game
for them as their passes were off
and the defence. looked shake)
"We've got too many guys who
are at training camp," said Exeter
coach Dave Revington.
Petrolia, who upped their unde-
feated record to 14-0, took a 3-0
lead after 20 minutes. The Mo-
hawks, who travel to Dunnville on
Saturday , saw their record slip to
1 1-3, good enough to remain in
second spot in the eight team loop.
Friday night in Dorchester, the
Mohawks had just eight skaters
dressed but came up with a big 6-1
win over the hosting Dorchester
Dolphins
"They've been getting good num-
bers out to their games and practic-
es and they're in game shape," said
Revington of Petrolia.
Gord Brooks, who was one of the
few bright spots for the locals on
Exeter forward Gord Brooks tried to get past Petrolia goalie
Jeff Simpson -while teammate. Paul Barton stumbled over a
Vics' player during Sunday's game.
Sundae, had a goal and an assist
while Jeff Warren, Rob Kingshott
and Cone McKee also scored.
"They are a first place club and
they've shown that all year," said
Brooks about the Victorians.
"We've been unable to have a full
squad and have everyone at prac-
nce. You just can't jump into the
hneup and expect to play good
hockey."

"They skated hard all night and
we stood around most of the first
period," said Brooks. "They've got
ayouung squad, you have to play

fell behind."
Brooks said the Victorians, ag-
gressive, forechecking meant the
Mohawks had to rush their passes.
It was 3-0 when Paul Moosedorff
let go with a backhander.
The hosts took nearly four min-
utes to get a shot on Jeff Simpson
and it wasn't until midway through
the second period when Kingshott
converted a pass from Joe Scherer.
In the second period, Gary Cater
and Brad Wilson connected for the
visitors and Greg McEachern
scored in the third.
Exeter came to life in the, third as
McKee scored followed 26 seconds
later by Warren's second of the
year. This one was a hard blast
from the point.

Dear Fred..
Who really cares if I'm a 38
year-old outfielder. My num-
bers prove 1 can still get the
job done. Look at my buddy
Dave Winfield, he was older
than me when he was signed by the Blue lays.
I hit .277 with the Cubbies including 22 homers and 90
RBi's which proves I still got a little sting in my bat. Boston
signing me to a two-year $9.3 million deal will make those
long hot summer days go by a lot easier.
Yours truly,
Andre Dawson.

Dear Fred •
1 am building a winner. I can feel it. George tried to do it in
New York and failed. But my pocket book has a few more ze-
ros behind all the numbers and besides Jane's been praying
real hard for a winner.
Signing Greg Maddux, the Cy Young award winner to a
deal makes me very happy. Now we have a shot at the whole
thing. Maddux has to be worth S6 million a year.
1 must have it...I must have it...1 must...
Yours truly,
Ted Turner
Owner, Atlanta Braves
Dear Fred
Greetings from sunny California. Wish you were here. At
last no more worrying about those cold days in May when I
had to go outside in the lousy Ontario weather to get into my
car.
I helped the Blue Jays win the World Series, I don't know
why the Jays would trade me. Do you think maybe because
1,m getting $4 million this year. I'm worth it, right?
Yours truly,
Kelly Gruber
Dear Fred:
Next time you receive a letter flout Kelly, tell him thanks
forme.
I have a chance to return to the team where I once played
and I feel I can really help out.
Although 1 am a utility infieldei basically, I can get the job
done.
Yours truly,
Luis Sojo
Dear Fred:
I am the best. Just ask anyone. My lawyer, my agent, my ac-
countant, my gardener, my butler, the guy who pours my ce-
real every morning, they'll tell you.
Nearly seven million per year to play baseball in San Fran-
cisco with the Giants is fine and dandy. -It sure is going to be
great having my dad around as the hitting coach. We can have
-:together.
Yours truly,
Barry Bonds
Dear Fred.
I'll shed a tear and 111 feel real sad about leaving Robin and
the boys in brew town but I think I'll get over it.
Please don't tell the Toronto fans the price of tickets going
up had anything to do with my three-year 513 million con-
tract.
Yours truly,
Paul Molitor
Pear Fred:
Tell all these overpaid ball players to try and get by on a
couple of million per year while someone wraps a hockey
stick around your head.
Yours truly,
Mark Messier
