This is presented to facilities for excel- lence in nursing care, documentation, manuals and general administration. Christmas carolling in Varna By Joan-Beierling VARNA - Sunday, December 13 was the Third Sunday in Advent at Varna Church. Ruby and Gordon Hill lit the third candle. Joyce and Bill Dowson and grandson Michael sang a Christmas Hymn accompa- nied by Floyd McAsh. The Church Service was followed with a lunch- eon of sandwiches and squares. Chnstmas carol singing followed before the concert started. Sunday School superintendent Joe Laurie welcomed everyone and Darcy Rathwell gave,the-Welcoming Rec- itation. Primary Class stole -the show with a poem "Here arc the Shepherds". Stacey Consist, Robin Taylor, Cameron Laurie, Alecia Dowson, Lindsay Broadfoot and Sarah Broadfoot all from this class did their own individual recitations, loud and clear so everyone could hear. The Junior Class did a story on "Let's pretend"" (to be an animal of the Chnstntas story). This followed with a choral reading "In the Bleak Midwinter" by the intermediate Class. The Senior Girls Heather Laurie, Heather Beierling, Meggin Bartliffe-Reid and Kim Taylor pre - sensed a skit called "Christmas Time with the person on the Street." Leanne Stephenson played "Jolly Old St. Nicholas" on the piano. Danny Rathwell played "Rockin Around the Christmas Tree" while Vaiene Laurie played "Joy to the World". Meggin Bartliffe Rcid played "O Come All Ye Faithful" on the flute. Mathew, Michael and Justin Groot followed with a Phone Call to Santa Claus and some recita- tions. Christmas Carols were then sung' again followed by a visit from San- ta. Thursday, December 17, Goshen U.C.W. will meet at. the home of Jean Bennett at 8:30 for their meet - Sunday, December 20 is Chnst- mas Sunday with services as usual in both Goshen and Varna. There will be a Candlelight service in Goshen this year on the evening of the 20th at 7:30 p.m. for everyone. When marking your calendars for 1993 the annual Church Meeting for Varna is January 24 and Goshen is January 31. Please have your re - pons handed in before the meeting. Also the date has been set for the Stanley Township Annual Fiddle Jamboree which is April 25. The Young People Group (age 10-13) will meet in Brucefreld at 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 17. Seniors meet in Hensall By Vanessa Cook HENSALL - Twenty Hensall Seniors .met 'December 10 at the United Church for a Christmas tur- key dinner. During the business a donation was made to the Town and Country Homemakers. The next meeting will be January 12. 1993 at 8 p.m. at Northcrest. Carol singing followed the dinner with Mary Broadfoot at the piano. Winners of the cards were: High, Vera Smale; Low, Stewart Black- well; Lone hands, Sadie Hoy. Wednesday evening, December 16 at 7:30 p.m., Hensall Public School students will present "Sur - fin' Santa". Everyone is welcome. Queensway residents enjoy Chrlstmas party HENSALL - This past week Rev- erend George Phillips from Varna and Goshen United Church was in and helped everyone to share in a communion service, Wednesday evening the staff at Queensway celebrated the season at their Christmas party. All who at- tended enjoyed the home -cooked meal provided by Jerry Rader. Spe- cial guests were Carolyn and Ed Ozimek from Windsor, Betty Mclver, who recently retired from the nursing staff, and Doris Lay - cox, who worked in housekeeping at Queensway. Health Care Aid pins were awarded to Tracy Mann, Carlene Martin, June McKenzie and Gloria Taylor. They completed their nec- essary course requirements while still working. Thursday morning residents were fortunate to have the sixth grade class from . Hensall Public school visit and give a sneak preview of their Christmas concert. Each child made a Christmas card to give to a resident. On Friday morning the fifth grade visited from Hensall Public School. The children provided an- other Christmas show for all resi- dents to enjoy; including Some small group' singing presentations, a piano solo and poetry. Each of these children made an angel to give to a resident. A special thanks to Principal Mary Moffat, and teachers Peter Snell and Heather Beattie for bringing the children in. Tonight residents are looking for- ward to the Legion 468 and Ladies' Auxiliary to come for a Christmas visit. On Thursday, residents will be watching "The Movie of Jesus." This film is a vivid re-creation of the life of Christ and was filmed entirely on location in the Holy Land. It promises to be a special Christmas event.
