The survey results show that av- erage farm assets in Canada in- creased marginally by 2.1 percent to 5536.600, between December 31, 1989 and December 31, 1991. The survey - conducted in co- operation with Agriculture Canada and Statistics Canada - shows the average net worth of Canadian farms increased 1.7 percent to 5441,600 in the same two-year pe- riod. The study was undertaken to pro- vide data to evaluate and measure changes in the financial situation of Canadian farmers. There are significant differences in the results among regions. Bnt- ish Columbia had the largest in- crease in average assets, at 12.8 percent, followed by Quebec at 11 percent. Alberta reported a de- crease of 3.4 percent. B.C., Quebec and the Atlantic provinces also had the highest gains in average net worth, at 17.4. 8.4 and six percent, respectively. The average debt load of fanners across Canada increased by 4.2 per- cent, to 595,000 in 1991 front 591,200 in 1989. In Alberta and B.C., in comparison, liabilities de- creased by 5.3 percent and 10.9 percent respectively. Dairy enterprises had the largest increase in net worth - increasing 10.2 percent to $593,600 - but also carried the largest average debt, ac- -^sMiti3ing to the Rimy results. The BBB/Ottawa has informed this Bureau that Canadian Reperto- ry Inc. of Sparks Si., Ottawa mailed the "invoice" recently to businesses right across Canada. The London BBB reports that they have had calls concealing this so called 'invoice". The invoice which states "Your account is past due', does not de- scribe what has been purchased, and businesses reporting to the Bu- reaus say they have ordered noth- ing from the company. Businesses receiving this mailing should report this fact to their local police deparunenls, since charges cannot be laid without a formal complaint. Revision of Electrical Rates for the Town of Exeter The Exeter Public Utilities Commission has been advised by On- tario Hydro that it is adjusting the wholesale rale to the Utility by 8.2% effective January 1, 1993. The Commission has reduced its capital budget for 1993 in order to enable them to absorb some of this increase in rates, but has no alternative but to pass some of the increase in the cost of elec- tricity to its customers.
