If ERIC LINDROS had any doubts about whether he made the right decision about not going to QUEBEC, it was dispelled in his first trip to QUEBEC. Get this, a radio station handed out pacifiers to the fans as they came in so they could throw them on the ice. Pen- nies, golf balls, batteries, fans climbing the glass and throwing things at ERIC and the Arena security just laughed with them in- stead of protecting the players like they are supposed to. Over 50 eggs were thrown on the ice The organist and the DUMMY TRUMPETEER that,,walks around.in the stands were encouraging the crowd to yell obscene things at"ERIC. How about them signs?. Beautiful wasn't it. I remember when I was playing for the Barrie Flyers of the OHA, we were m the semi-finals of the Memorial Cup and during one game. the play went up in the QUEBEC end and I happened to look back to see one of our players that had been pulled up into the stands and they were butting -out cigarettes on his neck. Nice crowd eh? But the ironic thing is that because of ERIC LIN- DROS, the NORDIQUES are going to make the play-offs, but they feel they were slighted by ERIC and afterall, this province can't be slighted. Afterall, they are different than you and I. Distinct 1 think it's called.. And_ you, they're right. after watching this disgrace, THEY ARE DIFFERENT! I'm really beginning to think there's something wrong with our country. There we were in the fourth game of the World Series, the• biggest spectacle in the world, a hundred million people watching the game all over the world and we win the game two W one. On the front page of a national newspaper the next day is a picture of KEL- LY GRUBER sliding home with the winning run. In our national paper and itdoesn'tsay "way w.go Kelly". winning run, or anything about his heart and soul N000. Listen to a few quotes on how we celebrated the win and this is how it was presented in our national newspaper .... "KELLY GRUBER IS ERODING IN FRONT OF OUR EYES" ... the muck is steadily accumulating on his helmet... last night he added several cuts and abrasions and added a disgusting layer of thick orange gooze to his uniform. Want more quotes?? "For pity sakes BLUE JAYS end the horror! Can you imagine how KELLY feels? He hit the homerun to tie the game the night before, scores the winning run in the next game and then he wakes up and reads this stuff? That's if he decides to read the papers. No'yvonder the ball players can hardly wait to get out of the country. -after the season's over. One final thought on. the UPSIDE-DOWN flag incident that took place in ATLANTA. Funny isn't it, that m otu own country people can boo the National Anthem like they do. at the Fatpo games (it's so bad that they don't sing the National :anthem anymore), wipe their behinds with the flag, spit on the flag, burn the flag, and not one of our gutless media or the rest of CANA- DA has a ward to say about it becausc we are all lou chicken -shit to confront our Quebec friends But let some poor U.S. MARINE make an honest mis- take and we want to crucify him.
